What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Technician - Natural Gas Pipeline Operations position at Utility Technologies International?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary focus of this position is to perform natural gas operations and maintenance functions and tasks, and to work with clients in Ohio and surrounding states. The Engineering Technician will assist with all the work associated with maintaining and operating a natural gas system. The selected candidate will be required to perform the job functions necessary to keep our clients in compliance with the regulations and requirements associated with 49 CFR Part 192. The UTI Operations department, including this position, also serves all other departments within the company with various tasks.
Periodic day travel and occasional overnights could be required as part of this position, typically within Ohio and surrounding states, to perform field work and make site visits. Overnight stays can vary, but are typically less than four (4) times per month.
The position will report to UTI’s office in Groveport, Ohio.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Operations and maintenance tasks for natural gas/hazardous liquid pipelines and related facilities for transmission and distribution operators
- Pipeline leak surveys
- Cathodic protection surveys
- Valve inspections
- Surveillance patrols
- Regulator inspections
- Meter inspections
- Odorization
- One call ticket management
- ROW maintenance
- Emergency Response (on-call including after hours and weekends, as required)
- Meter orders
- Leak investigation
- Continual growth of knowledge and interpretation of applicable gas pipeline safety codes, regulations, and laws
- Participating in annual pipeline safety field audits
- Provide guidance and support to management, field staff, clients, contractors, etc.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English language)
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to handle multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines simultaneously without compromising quality of work or safety
- Mechanical aptitude
- Troubleshooting skills
- Skill to prepare documents, retain and organize records, analyze and summarize field data, in order to compile and submit various completion reports
- Analyze situations, make decisions, take action, and inform supervisors of exceptions to the standard processes
- Availability to occasionally conduct field work in other areas in Ohio and surrounding states. Field work may require overnight stay
- Discretion when dealing with confidential information
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Good record of safe work practices
- Ability to pass a pre-employment Drug and Alcohol screening · Ability to pass random Drug and Alcohol screenings
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to walk distances and carry equipment (up to 50 lbs.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3 years’ experience working on or around natural gas pipelines
- Working knowledge and experience with 49 CFR Parts 192
- OSHA 10 and/or other industry safety training/qualifications
