Job Summary:
Job Duties:
- Serve as a mentor to 3-4 JAMP scholars individually throughout the summer internship.
- Provide intentional and individualized mentorship through a minimum of 2 mentoring sessions per week, lasting no more than 2 hours each.
- Allocate 1 hour per week for preparing mentoring sessions.
- Coordinate and facilitate at least one off-campus social activity/team-building event per week for scholars.
- Familiarize scholars with the UTMB campus and Galveston Island and assist with transportation for program activities as needed.
- Conduct a 1-hour group session to review academic coursework, assist with the TMDSAS application process, or provide MCAT preparation support.
- Attend training workshops for JAMP Peer Mentors and virtual weekly meetings with the JAMP Medical School Coordinator.
- Facilitate at least one clinical skills workshop for scholars.
- Participate in interview practice sessions with scholars and provide constructive feedback on non-cognitive aspects.
- Submit scholar evaluations by pre-determined deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate positive mentorship.
- Effective time-management skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with others.
- Interest in working with low-income, first-generation college students, and individuals from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Previous experience in coaching, mentoring, teaching, or counseling preferred.
Salary Range:
Commensurate with experience.
