Job Description
The College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (A&S) is seeking a Director of Pre-Award Research Administration to join the College’s research administration team. The College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is the largest of UVA’s ten schools and the research administration team provides comprehensive pre-award services to all academic departments within the College. The incumbent will oversee pre-award processes for internal and external proposals including proposals for federal, foundation, and private grants. They will act as an Authorized Organizational Representative on behalf of UVA and A&S.
Responsibilities
This position is eligible for hybrid and/or remote work. The anticipated salary range for this position is $100,000-$115,000, commensurate with experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Education: Master's degree OR Bachelor's degree along with 10 years of relevant experience.
Experience: At least seven years of relevant experience.
Licensure: None
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.

Responsibilities
- Oversees proposal applications and electronic submissions for all sponsored project research.
- Ensures all proposal documents (technical and administrative proposal content, budgets, and other submission content) align with UVA and sponsor policies and requirements.
- Monitors agency requirements for proposal submissions and communicates changes to pre-award team.
- Develops pre-award proposal templates as needed to support efficient submission of proposal documents.
- Provides guidance to pre-award team on complex proposal submissions.
- Manages responses to sponsors for pre-award questions and oversees JIT processes.
- Mentor and guide pre-award research administration staff to support them in creating a service-focused and efficient pre-award team.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

- Experience developing, reviewing and/or submitting proposals for federal funding agencies (NSF, NIH, NASA, DoD, DOE, NEH) as well as non-federal sponsors (private foundations, industry and corporate sponsors).
- Experience working in an academic research setting.
- Experience as an Authorized Organizational Representative.
- Ability to adapt and work independently with a focus on problem solving and customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate with internal and external audiences as it relates to sponsored projects research.
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification.
Education: Master's degree OR Bachelor's degree along with 10 years of relevant experience.
