Job Summary
The Emergency Department Technician Paramedic is to assist with patient care ranging from minor injury and illness to initiating advanced life support measures within the scope of practice under the direct supervision of the registered nurse and MD. Integral member of the Emergency Department performing specific technical tasks as outlined on the technician’s skills competency check list. Accurately documents care provided in patient medical record Assists with in-hospital patient transports If certification level appropriate and interested, cross-trains to Ambulance Transport Assists with secretarial duties Stocks patient supplies and assists with inventory Monitors equipment to ensure working order and cleanliness. Enters work orders for broken equipment Cleans patient rooms and equipment between patients Perform IV/IO access Operate mechanical IV Pumps Operate Defibrillator to include cardioversion and cardiac pacing.
Advanced ED Technician Program Management of non-displaced gastrostomy tube Invasive hemodynamic monitoring NG/OG placement. Administer ACLS and PALS medications. Other medications ordered by MD per our Advanced ED Technician Program policy. Other duties as assigned under scope of practice of Virginia as a Paramedic.
Patient Care: Provides and documents assistance to patients under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse.
Qualifications
Education: High School or GED required.
Experience: EMTs – 1 year of current documented field experience or one year current healthcare experience
Licensure: EMT-P
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Basic patient assessment skills including primary survey. Basic knowledge of primary interventions. Demonstrated effective communication skills. High level of compassion, desire to help others, and self-confidence. Basic computer knowledge with demonstrated administrative skills.

- Assists in room turnaround, including appropriate cleaning of equipment, supplies, and environment.
- Organizes supplies and equipment as needed.
- Obtains and documents vital signs as prescribed.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members.
- Resolves conflicts independently as appropriate.
- Understands concepts of sterile and non-sterile techniques.
- Adheres to safety measures.
