Job Summary
The Perioperative Process Improvement Manager will be responsible for leading and implementing process improvement initiatives within the perioperative settings to optimize patient care, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure a safe and effective surgical environment across UVA Community Health. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare operations, Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies, and a deep understanding of perioperative workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Business Administration, or a related field.Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in healthcare operations, preferably in a perioperative setting. At least 3 years of experience in process improvement or project management within healthcare, with a demonstrated track record of successful initiatives preferred. Familiarity with perioperative workflows, including surgical scheduling, preoperative assessment, intraoperative procedures, and postoperative care.
Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) Virginia PREFERRED
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Proven ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions. Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across departments and influence change at all levels of the organization. High level of organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to navigate a fast-paced healthcare environment and manage competing priorities effectively.
Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Strong knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:
- Process Improvement Leadership: Lead and drive initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiencies, patient outcomes, and the overall perioperative experience. Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement frameworks to identify, analyze, and address inefficiencies or bottlenecks in perioperative workflows.
- Data Analysis & Performance Metrics: Collect and analyze data related to surgical scheduling, patient flow, staffing, equipment utilization, and surgical outcomes to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement. Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarks to ensure continued improvements.
- Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams: Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, surgical technologists, and other stakeholders to foster a culture of continuous improvement. Facilitate cross-functional teams and collaborate to address clinical and operational challenges within the perioperative setting.
- Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of process improvement projects, ensuring that timelines, budgets, and scope are adhered to. Coordinate resources and ensure alignment of project goals with organizational objectives.
- Training & Development: Develop and deliver training programs to perioperative staff on process improvement methodologies, best practices, and new workflows. Ensure that staff are empowered to implement changes and sustain improvements.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure that process improvements align with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and industry best practices. Work with clinical leadership to implement patient safety initiatives and ensure compliance with accreditation and certification bodies.
- Change Management: Lead change management efforts to ensure smooth adoption of new processes, technologies, or workflows. Provide support to staff during transitions and address any concerns related to the implementation of process changes.
- Continuous Improvement Culture: Promote a culture of continuous improvement across perioperative services, encouraging staff to actively participate in identifying and addressing inefficiencies. Advocate for data-driven decision-making and foster an environment of innovation.
