UVA Imaging is looking for an LPN, or Radiology Technologist who loves patient care but is looking for something beyond the usual job role! Come join the UVA Imaging team as a full-time MRI Technologist Assistant as part of our remote scanning team, working as part of an interdisciplinary team of nurses, remote technologists, and imaging center staff in the exciting field of Magnetic Resonance Imaging! As an MRI Technologist Assistant, your primary function is to assist the Remote MRI Technologist in performing imaging services to patients. This position works exclusively in an outpatient setting and primarily on the weekend and on weekday evenings.

JOB SUMMARY:


Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the remote MRI Technologist to perform high quality diagnostic imaging services in a safe, timely, professional, confidential, personally attentive manner.
  • Responsible for MRI patient screening, positioning, and patient observation during examination.
  • Ensure patient history form is accurate, complete, and reviewed with the ROCC Technologist. Identify and investigate areas of concern to preclude patient incidents.
  • Properly place and maintain patent IV access for patients, as needed, using aseptic technique. Administer MR contrast agents as prescribed by the ordering physician. Identify adverse reactions following injection and escalate patient treatment according to protocol.
  • Assist with the overall workflow of the department to ensure the completion of work assignments.
  • Transport patient to and from the MR suite. Provide proper patient communication throughout the examination according to policy and procedure.

Perform other relevant duties and responsibilities as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Identifies patients and assists technologists with patient preparation and positioning.
  • Collaborates with Imaging Center staff to facilitate timely patient care.
  • Prepares patient for procedure by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary.
  • Provides optimal patient care by explaining procedure to patient and answering questions.
  • Assists with assessment, planning, and implementation of nursing care.
  • Follows established Safety Standards to ensure safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Performs venipuncture and maintains intravenous access as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Performs quality assurance checks on equipment.
  • Takes the initiative to help other modalities/areas of the Imaging Center as assigned or when own workload/area allows.
  • Identifies, prepares, and/or administers medications as prescribed by and under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Establishes ownership of clinical area by taking pride in appearance and readiness of exam rooms, treatment area, equipment, and supplies.
  • Monitors and records the physiological condition of patients.
  • Functions as liaison with primary care departments.
  • As required, instructs students and residents, and performs preceptor duties as necessary.
  • Serves, manages, and supports internal and external customers.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Demonstrates consistent use of AIDET (Acknowledge patient, introduce yourself, provide Duration/timeline for test, Explain the process, & thank them for choosing our center) and HEAL (Hear them out, Empathize, Apologize, & Leap into action to solve) when interacting with patients/customers.
  • Participates as a team member and is accountable for own work responsibilities.
  • Attends/participates in staff meetings, in-services, & center-wide meetings as scheduled.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:

  • no experience necessary

EDUCATION:

  • Must be a graduate of an approved LPN or Radiography program.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must meet the state licensure requirement for the state in which they practice. BLS certification required within 60 days of hire.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work independently and multitask under the direction of a RN or licensed independent practitioner.
  • Ability to manage medical emergencies and/or contrast reactions under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Ability to provide documentation accurately and concisely.

LANGUAGE SKILLS/REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to successfully write reports, business correspondence, and policy.
  • Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, and professionally interact with managers, employees, clients, vendors, and the general public.
  • Ability to recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and correct errors.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in a variety of forms and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER LITERACY

  • Knowledge of computer applications, including information and billing systems, keyboard input, digital archiving, and retrieving of data.
