JOB SUMMARY: The Hospital Registration Clerk is responsible for registering patients for inpatient and outpatient services, collecting and verifying patient information, and ensuring all necessary documentation is completed. This role involves interacting with patients, families, and healthcare providers to facilitate a smooth admission process. The clerk must ensure that patient records are accurate and complete, contributing to efficient hospital operations and positive patient experiences. This non-exempt position reports directly to the Patient Registration Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Patient Registration:
- Greet patients and families upon arrival at the hospital.
- Collect and verify patient information, including personal details, contact information, insurance coverage, and medical history.
- Ensure all registration forms and necessary documentation are completed and signed by the patient or guardian.
- Accurately enter patient information into the hospital’s electronic medical records (EMR) system.
2. Insurance Verification:
- Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility.
- Obtain and document any necessary authorizations or referrals required by insurance providers.
- Communicate with insurance companies to clarify coverage details and resolve any discrepancies.
3. Patient Communication:
- Provide patients with information about hospital policies, procedures, and services.
- Address patient questions and concerns, directing them to the appropriate department if necessary.
- Inform patients about their financial responsibilities, including copayments and deductibles, and collect payments as required.
4. Record Maintenance:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring that all information is entered correctly and promptly.
- Ensure that all patient interactions and transactions are documented in accordance with hospital policies and HIPAA regulations.
- Prepare and distribute daily reports on patient admissions and registrations as required by hospital management.
5. Customer Service:
- Provide high-quality customer service to patients and their families, ensuring a positive experience during the registration process.
- Handle patient interactions with empathy, professionalism, and confidentiality.
6. Collaboration:
- Work closely with other hospital departments, such as billing, medical records, and clinical staff, to ensure smooth patient flow and accurate information sharing.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
- Associate’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or a related field preferred.
- Experience:
- Previous experience in a hospital, clinic, or medical office setting preferred.
- Experience with patient registration, medical records, or insurance verification is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using computer systems, including EMR software and Microsoft Office Suite.
