JOB TITLE:
Hourly Pooled - SER Research Assistant
JOB PURPOSE:
The School of Energy Resources (SER) is seeking a graduate or law school research assistant to contribute interdisciplinary legal and social research in relation to a grant recently received from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation which focuses on the potential for producing critical minerals and rare earth elements (CM/REE) from waste residuals produced from coal and hard rock mining. The person hired to this position will work closely with an interdisciplinary team of SER researchers to help carry out tasks related to legal and/or social science analysis. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct high-quality legal and/or social science research and analysis, potentially including field-based research and qualitative interviewing
- Deliver high-quality written work on complex social, legal, and technical issues, with an ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- Be able to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team setting
- Be able to carry out research tasks reliably and with an appropriate level of independence
- Occasionally travel to field sites to assist in conducting stakeholder meetings and/or interviews
- Complete all academic requirements associated with their graduate program while successfully maintaining a 10-20 hour per week work schedule.
COMPETENCIES:
Must have a background in law and/or social science methodologies with ability for effective writing and research.
REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:
This position is eligible for remote work and/or a flexible work schedule.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
- Hiring is contingent upon admittance to an applicable graduate program at the University of Wyoming
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrate a strong academic record
- Experience in the field of law, social science, or another relevant discipline, including experience with legal research and analysis and/or qualitative and quantitative social science research method.
- Ability to effectively articulate complex ideas verbally and in writing
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- Team oriented, self-motivated
- Familiarity with standard citation formats
- Strong track record of reliability
