POSITION SUMMARY: Performs all job functions within Histology/Pathology department including routine embedding, microtomy, staining procedures, reagent preparation, and equipment maintenance. Assists at autopsy as necessary. |
EDUCATION/TRAINING: Associate or baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a major in Biology or Chemistry –OR- successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnologist or Histologic technician program. |
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification required. If candidate is a graduate of an accredited program, must pass the certification exam within 12 months of hire. If candidate qualifies for the examination by the experience route (Route 2), must pass the certification exam within 2 years of hire. Certification must be maintained by submitting appropriate continuing education documentation to certifying agency. |
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Knowledge of current medical terminology and full range of laboratory tests and equipment. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with medical staff, patients and staff. Strong problem solving abilities. Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required. |
