Schedules appointments efficiency and optimal customer service in a fast paced and challenging environment. Schedules testing with physicians, physician office personnel and hospital departments using detailed knowledge of all testing sequences. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System Incentives.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Must be detail oriented and well organized.
Ability to multitask in a high call volume, very technical and diverse environment.
Position requires strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
Effective communication & listening skills.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with ability to interact with a all levels of staff, patients, and diverse population.
Knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy preferred.
Ability to type 30 wpm.
Successful completion of annual job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.
Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy/physiology preferred.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Exhibits exceptional customer service skills when interacting with patients, families, and visitors. Maintains a calm and positive supportive environment follow AIDET.
Schedules appointments, gathering required medical and demographic patient information and enforcing hospital denial policy regarding scheduling. Detects and resolves scheduling conflicts using analysis, interpretation and judgement. Cancels and reschedules appointments as necessary identifying situations requiring physician/ancillary staff notification.
Requires detailed knowledge of appointments scheduled for the Regional Cancer Center. Utilizes knowledge of exceptions and screening criteria to assess calls for appropriateness, testing variables and determines proper sequencing and medical appropriateness of multiple testing combinations.
Screens patients during calls to detect potential medical conflicts and need for medical orders. Informs patient of appointment date, time, prep instructions, registration and valet parking information.
Ensures that physician orders are complete. Works directly with physician offices to ensure compliance with scheduling requirements and provides ongoing education to physician offices regarding the scheduling process.
Coordinates scheduling of procedures with other departments in an efficient & timely manner.
Performs a variety of reporting & scheduling system maintenance functions within department. Maintains accurate & complete supporting documentation of scheduling activity. Edits schedules as requested by ancillary departments.
Assists in the process of training new Regional Cancer Center employees and provides assistance / training to other SAH departments as required.
