The Apogee Large Scale Optical segment has grown from $100M to $200M in revenue through a recent acquisition. Position Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-driven Product Engineer to support the development and continuous improvement of our manufacturing products. This role plays a critical part in bridging the gap between design and production—ensuring products are engineered for functionality, manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and quality. You will work cross-functionally with design, operations, quality, and supply chain teams to bring products from concept to reality.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with design and R&D teams to develop manufacturable product designs.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) processes including prototyping, testing, and production validation.
- Create and maintain accurate engineering documentation, such as BOMs, drawings, and specifications.
- Analyze product performance and production issues including performing defect analysis (e.g. streaking, orange peel, adhesion issues, poor curing).
- Evaluate and improve existing manufacturing processes for efficiency, quality, and cost reduction.
- Evaluate and qualify alternative materials for cost, performance, or sustainability goals.
- Work with suppliers and vendors to ensure component compatibility and quality standards.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action for product quality issues (CAPA, FMEA, etc.).
- Ensure products comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Assist in tooling design and selection for production processes.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing, quality, and maintenance teams (substrate preparation coating application, curing, and environmental controls).
Personal Attributes and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Material Science.
- 2 years of experience in a product or manufacturing engineering role.
- Experience with ERP, PLM, and PM systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Arena, Asana, Taskray).
- Knowledge of quality systems (ISO 9001, Six Sigma, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with prototyping and coatings test equipment.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced production environment.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as coatings application and curing (UV/EB, sputter), and machining.
- Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
- Familiar with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
