Job Summary:

This position works for the Department of Psychology in the College of Letters & Science, under the direction of the IT Director for the department. This position will serve as one of the primary points of contact for the technology and facilities support help desk. Position responsibilities include setup and upgrading computers, troubleshooting hardware and software issues for Window and MacOS computers, and providing advice to faculty, instructional staff, students and research staff to help determine appropriate use of technology for instructional, research and administrative purposes. The position will also assist with maintenance and upgrade of technology infrastructure such as servers. Furthermore, they will perform routine and non-routine troubleshooting for computer problems and consult with customers to understand their business problem and determine the best way to meet their information needs. The position may help identify items that need to be purchased for the department and research labs.

This position will be required to travel between multiple buildings on campus to perform this service. In addition to technology support, the position assists with managing classroom AV systems and supporting department special events.

The final candidate will be asked to complete a number of trainings specific to UW systems.

This position will also work with the Department Administrator to support building projects and other small building maintenance needs. For example, when new faculty start with our department, we often have to complete small renovations to their space. We are looking for someone who can focus on helping moving projects along, call various trade shops to check on things, communicate with building occupants about upcoming events or impacts, help track space assignments, etc. The percentage of time needed for this portion of the position may fluctuate depending on needs and the time of year. No specific building or construction knowledge is needed.

Responsibilities: Provides multidisciplinary information technology (IT) services to support routine to moderately complex IT functionality according to work unit or program's business goals and objectives.

  • 20% Answers routine to moderately complex questions and provides information, creates documentation, and trains end users regarding hardware, software, applications, and technology access
  • 50% Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots hardware, configurations, multimedia, and software applications for various environments and business needs
  • 10% Researches potential technology purchases and makes recommendations to leadership according to work unit business needs and requests
  • 20% Coordinate, track, and manage building projects.

Required:

  • One year in a position providing customer service or equivalent experience
  • One year of professional IT or AV experience, or equivalent experience demonstrating comparable skills
  • Experience with Windows and Apple Operating Systems and computing hardware
  • May occasionally need to lift items up to 50 pounds
  • Strong attention to detail

Preferred:

  • Ability to work independently, adjusting priorities when needed to meet the demands of the position
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and contribute in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize work, take initiative, and be proactive
  • Experience coordinating activities or projects including tasks such as tracking completion, following up with project partners, communicating with those impacted by the activity or project

8am - 4:30p, with some flexibility

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

The starting annual base salary for this position is listed as $26.00 an hour depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays and paid time off; competitive insurance and saving accounts; and retirement benefits

Additional Information:

This position may be ideal for those interested in either part-time (32 hours per work week) or full-time work (40 hours per work week). At peak times, such as the start of the academic year, business needs may require additional hours per work week. This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act provision for overtime. If overtime hours are assigned, the worker will be paid at a premium rate or shall be credited with compensatory time off at a rate of 1.5 hours per hour worked, for all hours worked in excess of 40 hours in a work week.
