Job Overview:
At VOICE, Direct Care Workers play an essential role in fulfilling the agency’s mission by providing compassionate, person-centered support to individuals with developmental disabilities and/or special illnesses. These professionals assist adults and children in achieving greater independence, promoting health, safety, and overall well-being, while supporting the pursuit of personal goals and preferences. Direct Care Workers are responsible for empowering individuals to lead fulfilling lives, both in the home and community settings, in alignment with their personalized care plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide hands-on support services to individuals with developmental disabilities and/or mental illness, following each client’s person-centered care plan.
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal care, mobility assistance, meal preparation, and medication management.
- Foster independence by encouraging clients to make choices that align with their preferences and goals.
- Offer support in community and home settings, accompanying individuals to appointments, community activities, errands, and other outings.
- Ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of individuals, prioritizing their needs and preferences at all times.
- Complete required documentation and reports in a timely manner, contributing to the ongoing assessment and modification of care plans.
- Collaborate with other service providers, families, and staff to create and maintain effective, individualized care plans.
- Assist with safe mobility needs, including lifting or transferring clients using proper techniques.
- Work with healthcare professionals to ensure care plans are tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients, including performing light housekeeping duties as needed.
Available Shifts:
- Afternoons (Full-Time / Part-Time): 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Skills & Qualifications:
- (Signing Direct Care Worker – American Sign Language Only – Possess conversational American Sign Language skills as measured by office staff during initial Interview.)
- Proficiency in medication administration and a strong understanding of medical protocols related to home care.
- Experience in memory care, dementia care, and senior care is highly preferred.
- Ability to assist with ADLs while promoting client independence and choice.
- Excellent observation skills to effectively monitor client behavior and health changes.
- Capability to safely assist with lifting and transferring clients, adhering to appropriate lifting techniques.
- Competence in preparing nutritious meals that meet clients’ dietary requirements.
- Compassionate and empathetic demeanor, with strong interpersonal skills to foster rapport with clients and their families.
