The Aircraft Mechanic III performs scheduled and unscheduled airframe, engine, avionics, electrical, fuel, hydraulics, flight controls, drive train, and rotor maintenance on UH-1N Helicopters and other associated equipment, stands, AGE, tools, test equipment, vehicles, and shop support items in accordance with Company Standard Operating Procedures and the PWS.

Major Job Activities

  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled airframe, engine, avionics, electrical, fuel, hydraulics, flight controls, drive train, and rotor maintenance on UH-1N Helicopters and other associated equipment, stands, AGE, tools, test equipment, vehicles, and shop support items in accordance with Company Standard Operating Procedures and the PWS.
  • Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies required expertise in restoring equipment conditions and or operation and applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints or manufactures’ manuals.
  • Directs and trains other mechanics within his/her span of control.
  • Performs in-flight checks and testing to include rotor track and balancing, and vibration troubleshooting.
  • Performs cleaning and corrosion treatment on assigned equipment.
  • Performs flightline functions including ground handling, towing, jacking, refueling, marshaling, launch and recovery.
  • Documents all inspection and maintenance actions in aircraft forms and IMDS.
  • Red X and IPI inspections.
  • Signs Exceptional Releases (ERs).
  • Practices good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention, and safety at all times.
  • Maintains hangar and grounds IAW Company and PWS requirements to include snow and weed removal.
  • Operates Ground Support Equipment.
  • Participates in FOD walks.
  • Knowledge and experience in technical, safety, and environmental issues involving UH-1N helicopter maintenance.
  • A working knowledge of aircraft structural/commnav/instrument/avionics/electrical/engine/gearbox/drive train/rotor systems with the ability to interpret and apply information on schematic diagrams, drawings and charts for fault isolation and repair of systems and subsystems.

Material & Equipment Directly Used

  • Working knowledge of Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS) and other MS Office products.
  • Working knowledge of technical publications.

Working Environment

  • Ability to move about both inside aircraft hangar and outside on aircraft ramp within close proximity of running equipment and aircraft.

Physical Activities

  • Exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
  • CLIMBING - Ascending or descending using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized (onto or off of helicopter)
  • HANDLING - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand (required for numerous tasks.)
  • EXPOSURE TO WEATHER - Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather (while conducting exterior ramp operations)
  • NOISE - Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds or a pitch or level sufficient to cause marked distraction or possible hearing loss (while conducting exterior ramp operations)

Qualifications

  • Education / Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
    • USAF or equivalent aircraft maintenance formal military training or FAA A&P license required.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance
  • Experience:
    • Eight (8) years’ aircraft maintenance experience at the 7 level (or equivalent) as an Aircraft/Engine/Avionics/Electrical Mechanic (with at least 5 years within the last 5).
    • Working knowledge of aircraft maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, technical publications, special tools, test equipment, and safety procedures required.
    • MH-139 maintenance experience preferred.
  • Skills & Technology Used:
    • Working knowledge of technical publications.
    • Must have thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
    • Must be able to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
    • Ability to direct and train other mechanics within their span of control.

  • The following salary range is intended to display the current per hour rate for this job.
    • USD $46.20.
