VDOT's Bristol District is seeking a motivated individual to be our next Maintenance Superintendent for the Chilhowie Area Headquarters. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about impactful work and leadership. As the Maintenance Superintendent, you will manage the full scope of work activities related to assigned maintenance programs and operations. Your role will be essential to ensuring the continued success and safety of our infrastructure.
The purpose of this position is to plan, develop, deliver, and oversee all aspects of the Area Headquarters maintenance program, ensuring compliance with established schedules and budgets. If you're a strategic thinker with a passion for public service, we want you to help us maintain and improve our transportation network.

This position is designated Essential for Emergency Operations – As defined by VDOT Department Memorandum (DM) Number: 17-1 – Emergency Operations and Traffic Management, VDOT is an emergency operation agency. As such, this job is crucial to our emergency response efforts. You will be expected to report to work during emergencies, maintain communications with your supervisor, and stay updated on weather forecasts to ensure you're ready for duty. Additionally, you will be prepared to operate appropriate equipment in all weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid driver's license.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and plan work within a budget develop cost estimates and
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
- Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
- Skill in reading road and bridge sketches.
