Job Duties
This position is an hourly/wage position. Wage employees may not work more than 29 hours per work week on average over the course of a year and are limited to 1,500 hours within a 12 month period. No State benefits are provided.
VDOT is seeking to fill a part time Right of Way Specialist to provide administrative and technical support for Central Office’s Right of Way Division. This position will assist with research of project expenditure verification processes to aid in project closure. Routinely communicate with internal/external customers; as well as, handle phone calls, in-person contacts and correspondence from agency personnel, citizens and government officials. The selected candidate will assist the Division when needed with Administrative functions; voucher processing, check retrieval, mail disbursement.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience applying office business practices and principles and applying executive administrative practices.
- Ability to compile, coordinate and prepare reports; monitor and analyze data and accurately perform data entry in automated financial system and prepare financial/statistical reports.
- Perform under pressure and meet deadlines; handle confidential and sensitive issues appropriately; and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
- Skill in providing and promoting good customer service to internal and external customers and in filing and document management.
Additional Considerations
- Knowledge and experience processing accounts payable and performing account reconciliations.
- Proficient use of database and spreadsheet applications to prepare reports and presentations.
- Experience interpreting and applying accounting and procurement policies and procedures and the ability to work independently.
- Experience using Cardinal or a similar automated financial management system preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- A combination of training, experience or education in business or office administration is desired.
This position is a part-time (wage) position and although it does not qualify for benefits, it is an opportunity to get your foot in the door of one of the Commonwealth’s largest organizations. In addition, the selected candidate will gain invaluable experience working with an agency-wide on a number of exciting initiatives.
