VDOT’s Bristol District is seeking a Sign Crew Supervisor to plan, schedule, oversee, and perform the installation, maintenance, repair, and removal of roadway signs and traffic control devices within an assigned geographical area. This position involves supervising a team, managing staff, and overseeing inventory.
As a key member of the team, the Sign Crew Supervisor will be responsible for a range of roadway maintenance activities, from simple tasks to more complex operations. The successful candidate will provide technical guidance to crew members, ensuring quality maintenance and effective equipment operation.

Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in work zone set-up, traffic controls and flagging to include using the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) or similar regulations.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
- Skill in the operation and maintenance of light, medium and heavy duty equipment used in routine and emergency maintenance operations.
- Valid driver's license.
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
- Safety shoes required.
- Ability to supervise the work of others to include performance management.
- Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
- Experience in sign installation, maintenance and repair.
Additional Considerations
- Commercial Driver' License (CDL)
- Experience supervising the work of others.
- Experience in roadway sign installation, maintenance and repair. Experience in work zone set-up, traffic controls and flagging to include using the MUTCD or similar regulations.
- Basic Tree Cutting & Chainsaw Operator
- Experience in emergency operations, e.g. snow, ice, storms, accidents, etc.
- Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control Safety
- CPR with AED, Standard First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogens (BBP) Combined Course
