About the opportunity :
Reporting to the Director of Patient Experience, the Chaplain Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing the Vail Health chaplaincy team, including staff chaplains, community clergy (volunteers or contractors), and any fellow or intern chaplains. This role ensures high-quality spiritual care for patients, families, and staff while fostering a supportive and collaborative environment within the chaplain team.
What you will do :
- Patient spiritual care : Initiates visits with patients and families by performing daily rounds throughout the Vail Health system locations as well as responding to special requests from patients, families, staff, and physicians to address their spiritual and emotional needs. Support is offered in various ways which recognize and respect the culture and religious perspective of the person receiving care. Assists patient and families in using their faith and spirituality to help deal with illness, trauma, and stress. Properly documents the patient and family services provided in the patient medical record as appropriate.
- Staff spiritual care : Provides spiritual support, crisis intervention, and offer visitation with staff, physicians, and volunteers, as appropriate and requested. Works alongside staff chaplain team in providing staff care through activities including recurring staff outreach, reflection writing, and periodic visitation of all Vail Health locations.
- Serves rotational on-call for Level 1 trauma activations at the Vail Health Emergency Department which includes evening and weekend hours. Responds to trauma activations and adverse event calls according to the response algorithm maintained by the chaplain team. Supports families and staff during times of patient death or other adverse events, working with support departments and agencies such as Case Management, Social Services, Eagle County Coroner, and others as appropriate.
- Supervises the team of Vail Health staff chaplains, community clergy (volunteer or contract), and any fellow or intern chaplains. Works with staff chaplains to coordinate team schedule, facilitating on-call coverage and chaplain access across the Vail Health system. Provides appropriate oversight and support for the day-to-day work of the chaplain team.
- Leads staff chaplain team in planning and execution of periodic special events, including educating Vail Health departments on nature of spiritual well-being and provision of spiritual care, training and educational opportunities for chaplain team, special staff outreach events, and spiritual care collaboration with community faith leaders.
- Assists Department Director with department budgeting, performance evaluations of direct reports, and any hiring and staffing of the chaplain team. As appropriate, facilitates staff chaplain team input with staffing strategies and hiring decisions.
- Partners with Department Director and staff chaplain team to periodically review and update the Vail Health spiritual care strategic plan, considering matters such as (but not limited to) the growth and utilization of spiritual care across the Vail Health system, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB), strategy for honoring spiritual or faith-based holidays, and appropriate utilization of the Frechette Chapel.
- Collaborates with Department Director with any complex decisions for the chaplain team. As appropriate, facilitates staff chaplain team input.
- Supports the enforcement of Vail Health organizational policies and procedures.
- Role models the principles of "Just Culture" and organizational values; performs other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.
