Our starting salary begins at $50,500 and there is no cap for teaching positions for folks with over 26 years of experience. All full-time roles are eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as 403(b) contributions.
Required Education

Purpose: An Upper School Teacher is responsible for carrying out the mission of VMS through curriculum development, classroom teaching, assessment, differentiation, classroom management, outdoor education, character development and building rapport with students in and out of the classroom. Our teachers support the mission and philosophy of the school, value the VMS culture, and strive to make our school a better place. They have a deep knowledge of their subject area, and display dedication, passion, and the capacity to help all students succeed. What You Will Do
- Teach the World Language curriculum in Upper Level Spanish, inclusive of language development, vocabulary, grammar, history, culture and literature.
- AP Spanish language experience is a bonus!
- Develop effective lesson plans classroom activities to engage students
- Inspire students to ask questions, engage creativity, and become their best selves.
- Ensure what is taught is developmentally appropriate for students, ensures rigor, is mission appropriate, and relevant
- Set targets, goals or essential questions for every unit
- Monitor and update curriculum maps and maintain curriculum standards
- Support students with diverse learning needs
- Work with students during study halls and office hours and advisory time
- Demonstrate knowledge of students and how they learn, and implement new teaching models to match student needs
- Actively participate and accommodate our winter sports program athletes through the use of distance learning and online learning practices.
- Maintain learning management system for all students (this includes timely grading and active posting of curriculum and resources)
- Participate in peer review through observation and coaching following the VMS professional growth plan
- Ensure that the VMS philosophy of grading is implemented and used appropriately
- Work with US Director, Director of Student Support Services to support the policies and implementation of academic probation and restriction for students
- Implement final examinations to ensure they fairly and adequately test the subjects and knowledge taught throughout the semester
- Work in collaboration with members of the department and the division to accomplish curricular, instructionals, and assessment goals
- Work to ensure that there is a fair amount of graded opportunities that exist for every class and that there is consistent communication for every class
- You hold a Bachelor’s degree; we would love to see an advanced degree as well, but it is not required.
- You are fluent in Spanish, native fluency is preferred.
- Experienced teaching with a minimum of three years of classroom teaching in independent schools (preferred, but not required).
- An expert in your field, passionate about inspiring learning, and skilled at adapting instruction to meet individual student needs.
- Skilled in lesson planning, supporting diverse learners, and managing classrooms effectively.
- Knowledgeable about equity, inclusion, and belonging, with a commitment to integrating these principles into the classroom. You are dedicated to creating an inclusive and equitable learning environment for a diverse student body and faculty.
- An effective communicator with students, parents, and colleagues, maintaining professionalism and clarity.
- Flexible and willing to participate in school programs beyond regular hours occasionally.
- A “raise your hand” type of person, ready to participate fully in the life of the school. You’re interested in participating in school events, like field trips, sitting at lunch tables, assisting with carpool, After School Academy, transporting students using our school vehicles, hut trips, and Ski Fridays (or alternative winter outdoor activities).
