JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Position: Maintenance Supervisor
Location: Solomon Gulch Hatchery, Valdez, AK.
Posting date: Open until filled
This position is responsible for ensuring the function of all company equipment and systems necessary to move the company forward in its mission. A successful candidate will apply critical thinking in planning and executing required job duties to ensure operations; including understanding primary water systems and all back up and emergency action plans. This position works directly with the Hatchery Manager and in his absence, the Executive Director to develop short and long-range objectives to support operations and maintain the infrastructure under their supervision. This position is expected to delegate approximately 40% of time performing maintenance administrative tasks and 60% of time performing actual fieldwork. This is an agriculture exempt salaried position.
Responsibilities:
· Supervise all permanent maintenance staff and prepares timely annual performance evaluations.
· Prepares schedules and assigns staff to accomplish the maintenance needs of the company and ensure the assigned tasks/projects is completed in a cost efficient and timely manner.
· Develop and implement preventative maintenance logs and service schedules. Performs rounds as necessary.
· Oversees an accurate companywide CMMS program. Develop equipment replacement plans.
· Maintains critical parts and supply inventories, and conducts ordering for department. Identifies vendors and contractors, and provides estimates and quotes for projects and repairs delegated to in-house maintenance.
· Performs service and repair of generators, pumps, heating and hot water systems, fuel distribution systems, lighting and alarm systems, and operation of domestic and wastewater systems.
· Performs service and repair of all equipment, including but not limited to: front-end loaders, forklifts, rolling stock, boats, outboard motors, small gas and diesel engines, pressure washers, welders, and power tools.
· Oversee the fabrication, or fabricates new tools and equipment utilizing aluminum and steel welding and other metal working tools when necessary.

Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Post-secondary training and/or certification in a technically related field such as Millwright, HVAC, electrical, or mechanical is desired.
Experience & Skills: Five years minimum experience in maintenance or facility supervision required. Current driver's license required
Physical: This position is physically strenuous. Must have ability to: tolerate long periods of walking or standing; lift equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds, push and pull heavy objects independently and in conjunction with others; bend and stoop frequently; use hands and arms to manipulate small objects with accuracy. The ability to swim is desired. The ability to wear a respirator and obtain physician approval to perform work with a respirator is required.

- Environment: Infrequent work in confined areas. Work in low light areas with flashlight or headlamp is sometimes required. Noise levels are frequently high due to alarm, machinery, and running water. Requires performing duties on and adjacent to cold water in watercraft and on moored structures where personal flotation devices are required.
- Hazards: Exposure to fumes such as paint, welding, gas and diesel; toxic chemicals, primarily formaldehyde; sharp objects; and power tools. Potential hazard of hypothermia when working on water.
