Full-time Position

Salary: Pay Starting at $15.00/hour

Job Description

We are looking for a Groundskeeper to join our parks maintenance team. This position performs grounds maintenance at parks, facilities, and boat ramps around Lowndes County. Work involves ensuring cleanliness of grounds, operating spray equipment and machinery in the application of various herbicides, preparing sports turf playing fields for activities, and other duties relating to the programming and sports turf maintenance needs of VLPRA.

Hours of operation:

Employment in this full-time position will require both regular and irregular work hours to include frequent weekends and nights or holidays depending on the needs of the Authority. Weekends hours are a regular requirement of this position.

Qualifications:

• Applicant must be 18 years of age or older
• Must have two years of experience in grounds and facility maintenance
• Ideal candidate will have experience preparing sports turf fields for a variety of sports
• Certifications and/or degrees relatable to the maintenance and landscape skills preferred
• CDL license is a plus
• Must be able to lift up at least fifty pounds
• Time-Management and ability to work in a fast-pace work environment is essential
• Applicants must have possession of a driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)

Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority is a drug-free workplace. A pre-employment drug screen, criminal history background investigation, and a Motor Vehicle Report will be conducted

Responsibilities:

• Prepare sports fields by chalking, dragging, installing portable fences, etc.
• Perform general maintenance of facilities such as stripping and waxing of floors
• Picking up trash and debris from the parks and facility grounds
• Landscape development and upkeep utilizing landscape equipment such as a zero-turn mower, trimmers, tractor, backhoe, etc.
• Perform regular and minor repairs on landscape equipment
• Maintains cleanliness and sanitary conditions of all restrooms located at the parks
• Must be able to load/unload landscape equipment safely onto and off the trailers
• Set up and break down equipment for special events
• Pressure-washing buildings, sidewalks, and parking lots
• Collaborate with maintenance team and management efficiently to ensure task are completed at quality performance
