Description of Job:
The Chemistry Research Manager at Valent BioSciences will oversee the daily operations of the Chemistry group and guide the design, development and execution of new analytical methods to advance our R&D pipeline of new metabolite- and microorganism-based sustainable product solutions for crop enhancement, crop protection, biostimulants, public health and forest health. This position will also enhance analytical testing methods for existing products to improve efficiency and sample throughput (e.g. integrating automation or introducing new instrumentation) as our pipeline expands. The Manager will join the Chemistry department within our R&D organization and is located at our Biorational Research Center in Libertyville, IL.
Principal Responsibilities:
The position requires a PhD in a specialized field of chemistry with 5 years of experience in the BioAgriculture industry, MS degree with 10 years of experience or BS degree with 15 years of experience

Base Salary: The estimated annual base salary for this position ranges from:
$117,800.00 to $153,000.00. Individual pay is based upon location, skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
Incentives: All full-time employees are eligible for an incentive program or profit-sharing program in addition to their base salary.

Principal Responsibilities:
- Manages a team of scientists including goal setting, project management, performance tracking and personal development.
- Responsible for department administration and budgeting including management of operational and capital expenses.
- Collaborates with organization leaders to understand product development goals, generates meaningful solutions using analytical chemistry and can deliver results that promote products through our development stage gates within defined timelines.
- Trains scientists to design QC test methods and research analytical methods on a variety of instruments to qualitatively and quantitatively measure a variety of bio-chemicals, proteins and other natural products in complex matrices.
- Improves our product registration process and reduces time to market by working closely with our regulatory team to support submission of registration dossiers in biopesticides and other biocontrol agents.
- Organizes high level communications and presents key findings to cross-functional product discovery and development teams.
- Regularly generates new scientific proposals, encourages and inspires the ideas of others, and promotes creativity and teamwork.
- Exhibits and upholds the values of Valent BioSciences: Integrity, Innovation & Connectedness.
- Conducts all work in strict compliance with applicable safety and regulatory requirements, standard operating practices, and/or guidelines.
- Previous management or supervisory experience of projects and people.
- Demonstration of leadership and emotional intelligence.
- Significant experience designing chemical analyses to support development of biologics, particularly those in the agriculture sector.
- Advanced understanding of method development and execution for a variety of analytical technologies including HPLC, GC, MS, CE and NMR.
- Experience collaborating with international regulatory leaders in the agriculture space and designing test methods that will meet complex requirements across diverse geographies.
- Experience working and supervising scientists within a GLP and ISO-9001 regulated environment.
- Willingness to foster a culture of diversity and inclusion.
