Health & Safety Specialist

• Ensures compliance with all applicable governmental and industry safety standards.
• Interfaces with refinery employees and assists with Health and Safety needs and education.
• Conducts OSHA compliance audits and safety field audits for assigned area (safe work permit, lockout/tag out, fall protection, etc.).
• Works with all on-site personnel to solve and implement corrections of safety problems and to improve safety effectiveness.
• Assists refinery personnel with work permit issuance.
• Participates in department “on-call” responsibilities for all Health and Safety matters.
• Participates in recommended professional development activities and training at the discretion of management
• Receives and distributes Safety Data Sheets and update the program manuals as needed.
• Maintains and assures proper operation of gas testing equipment/H2S monitors.
• Conducts routine technical assignments under the guidance of more experienced personnel.
• Completes short-term Health and Safety projects.
• Provides technical assistance to the refinery and assigned area on safetyissues.
• Conducts or assists in incident/injury/loss reporting.
• Conducts contractor orientation as needed.
• Conducts Complaince assessments on Port Arthur Refinery, Site Safety policies for contractors and Valero personnel.
• Supports turnaroundand Refinery expansion programs for safety compliance
• Provides industrial hygiene support and expertise to the refinery.
• Attends and participates in team meetings involving all incident investigations.
• Conducts routine and non-routine inspections and work site assessments.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 3 years of refinery/petrochemical safety experience required.
• Associate Degree in Safety Related field preferred.
• Bachelors degree in Safety or related field preferred.
• Emergency Response Training preferred.
