What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health & Safety Specialist position at Valero?
- Ensures compliance with all applicable governmental and industry safety standards.
- Interfaces with refinery employees and assists with Health and Safety needs and education.
- Conducts OSHA compliance audits and safety field audits for assigned area (safe work permit, lockout/tag out, fall protection, etc.).
- Works with all on-site personnel to solve and implement corrections of safety problems and to improve safety effectiveness.
- Assists refinery personnel with work permit issuance.
- Participates in department “on-call” responsibilities for all Health and Safety matters.
- Participates in recommended professional development activities and training at the discretion of management
- Receives and distributes Safety Data Sheets and update the program manuals as needed.
- Maintains and assures proper operation of gas testing equipment/H2S monitors.
- Conducts routine technical assignments under the guidance of more experienced personnel.
- Completes short-term Health and Safety projects.
- Provides technical assistance to the refinery and assigned area on safetyissues.
- Conducts or assists in incident/injury/loss reporting.
- Conducts contractor orientation as needed.
- Conducts Complaince assessments on Port Arthur Refinery, Site Safety policies for contractors and Valero personnel.
- Supports turnaroundand Refinery expansion programs for safety compliance
- Provides industrial hygiene support and expertise to the refinery.
- Attends and participates in team meetings involving all incident investigations.
- Conducts routine and non-routine inspections and work site assessments.
This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- 3 years of refinery/petrochemical safety experience required.
- Associate Degree in Safety Related field preferred.
- Bachelors degree in Safety or related field preferred.
- Emergency Response Training preferred.
