What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanic 1 Class Equipment Operator position at Valero?
- Operates heavy equipment of various types in a refinery setting.
- Able to work with Valero provided equipment in a safe manner and follow the OSHA, ANSI, PCSA and manufactures guidelines and procedures.
- Have a thorough knowledge of JCB Backhoe Loader 214 S, Grove RT 700 E 70 Ton Crane, Grove RT 600 E 50 Ton Crane, Broderson Carrydeck 18 Ton, Broderson Carrydeck 8.5 Ton, Man-lifts of all kinds, Forklifts of all kinds.
- As directed by supervision, operates crane lifts, open trenches, rig on valuable equipment, operate a Man-lift, Forklift, and complete minor repairs.
- Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and complete daily equipment inspections. Log/document all preventative maintenance and repairs completed on equipment.
- Assists other employees/crafts in everyday work activities, with little or no supervision.
- Informs supervision when a problem occurs on the job site, or with equipment that could cause an accident.
- Must be available for emergency call-out situations after regular business hours, weekends and holidays.
- During turnarounds and plant outages will work seven days a week with extended daily hours.
- Must be available to remain at the plant during weather emergencies such as hurricanes or floods.
- Other duties or special projects as assigned by supervision.

- High school Diploma or GED required.
- A minimum of 5 years refinery related experience as an equipment operator is required.
- Ability to operate all the required equipment up to and including a 70 ton hydraulic crane and an 18 ton carrydeck are required.
- A Class C CDL Drivers License is required.
- Good written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Bill Greehey Refinery, required.
Position level and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
