Job Title: Accounting Assistant

Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounting Assistant to join our dynamic accounting team. The successful candidate will assist with a variety of accounting tasks including journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, bank reconciliations, and payroll processing. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a keen attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Journal Entries: Assist in preparing, recording, and posting journal entries to ensure accurate financial records.
- Accounts Payable: Process and review invoices, ensure proper coding, and manage vendor payments in accordance with company policies.
- Accounts Receivable: Process customer payments, maintain aging reports, and assist in resolving discrepancies or billing issues.
- Collections: Communicate with customers to ensure timely payment, follow up on overdue accounts, and assist in implementing collection strategies.
- Bank Reconciliations: Perform monthly bank reconciliations, ensuring all discrepancies are addressed promptly.
- Payroll Processing: Assist with payroll data entry, timekeeping, and ensuring accurate deductions and benefits processing.
- General Administrative Support: Provide support for accounting projects, assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, and maintain organized records.
- Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with company policies and assist in preparing financial reports as needed.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 1-3 years of experience in an accounting or finance role, preferably in a midsized business or corporate setting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, etc.).
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and practices.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with numbers accurately.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with team members and other departments.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with payroll processing and understanding of payroll taxes.
- Knowledge of general ledger processes, month-end close, and financial reporting.
- Experience in using ERP or accounting software.
