Position Summary
The Director of Project Management (DPM) is responsible for the leadership, execution, and financial performance of a portfolio of VALIANT’s construction projects, overseeing a team of Project Managers and Project Engineers. This role ensures the successful delivery of multiple projects across the Midwest, Southwest, and Southeast, with project values ranging from $10M to $50M.
With 80% of projects in federal healthcare, the DPM plays a critical role in strategic planning, project forecasting, and resource allocation, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence. This position provides leadership, management, and accountability for project teams while fostering strong client and subcontractor relationships, mitigating risk, and ensuring both financial and operational success.
The DPM collaborates closely with Preconstruction and Accounting and reports directly to the Vice President of Operations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Project Managers and Project Engineers to enhance performance and accountability.
- Establish clear expectations and hold project teams accountable for schedule, cost, and quality objectives.
- Collaborate with the Director of Field Construction to ensure seamless coordination between project management and field operations.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
Project Execution & Operations
- Oversee project planning, scheduling, and execution to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
- Conduct regular project health reviews, tracking KPIs, financials, and risk management.
- Implement and enforce company project management processes, including CPM scheduling, cost control, and subcontractor management.
- Lead strategic problem-solving initiatives to address project challenges proactively.
- Drive operational efficiency by leveraging industry best practices and technology.
Financial & Contract Management
- Ensure accurate project forecasting and financial reporting, keeping forecasts within ±10% of actual revenue.
- Review and approve project budgets, cost reports, and change orders.
- Work closely with finance and accounting teams to ensure proper billing, cash flow management, and project profitability.
- Provide oversight on subcontractor performance, contract compliance, and claims management.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a primary point of contact for high-profile clients, owners, and government agencies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring exceptional client satisfaction.
- Support business development efforts by contributing to project proposals, RFP responses, and client presentations.
Strategic & Process Improvement
- Continuously refine project management systems, ensuring best-in-class execution.
- Work alongside the VP of Operations and COO to align project execution strategies with company goals.
- Identify and implement new technologies to improve efficiency, communication, and reporting.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree or PMP certification preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 10 years of construction project management experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing project teams.
- Industry Knowledge: Extensive experience with federal contracts, including design-build and IDIQ/MATOC task orders. Familiarity with government contracting regulations and CPARS performance criteria.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in CPM scheduling (Primavera P6 preferred), Procore, and construction financial management.
- Leadership: Proven ability to develop teams, drive accountability, and implement operational improvements.
- Problem-solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve project risks proactively.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with executives, clients, and field teams.

Pay:
$150K to $170K.
$10K allowance for relocation reimbursable with receipts.
Must work from the home office in Louisville, KY
