VALiNTRY is searching for a HLASM / MVS Developer for a remote position
The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $130,000 per year. However, if you possess additional valuable skill sets that could benefit the enterprise, you may be eligible for higher compensation. We encourage strong technical candidates to apply without hesitation.
This position combines both programming and support responsibilities, as all of our product developers also provide Level-2 product support. A strong command of HLASM is essential, as JES3plus is exclusively written in HLASM. Experience with HLASM macros is beneficial, and while some JES3plus code runs in 64-bit mode, most operates in 31-bit mode. Familiarity with the latest IBM Z hardware instructions is also advantageous.
Ideally, candidates will have in-depth knowledge of MVS internals, including :
- Understanding of key MVS control blocks like TCB, SRB, PRB, SVRB, ASCB, ASSB, ASXB, CVT, ECVT, etc.
- A solid grasp of virtual memory concepts and storage areas, including CSA, SQA, low-private, high-private, authorized subpools, user subpools, PSW-key-controlled protection, and related principles.
- Familiarity with error recovery tools such as ESTAEs, FRRs, and ARRs.
- Proficiency with advanced system modes like BAKR, PC / PR, cross-memory mode, access register mode, and related features.
- A working understanding of low-level I / O concepts, particularly STARTIO and EXCP interfaces.
We recognize this is a complex field and are prepared to support skill development as needed.
Experience with or prior knowledge of JES3 would be a significant advantage, and familiarity with JES2 would also be helpful, though neither is mandatory.
This is a growing area for us, with plans to triple our JES3plus client base over the next year. The role offers numerous development projects, promising a fast-paced, engaging environment.
