Direct Care Specialist

1. Direct Support Professional (DSP) General description of position

The Direct Support
Professional is responsible for meeting the needs of the individual by providing direct care and supervision consistent with the
needs and individual program plan of the individual. The DSP is responsible for the safety
of the residents and that
the living environment is clean and pleasant.

Days and Hours on Duty:

Base up on the sample weekly schedule with references to individual’s availability

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.
Assist and supervise residents with activities of daily living such as
dressing, eating, bathing and toileting.

2.
Observe and report to the administrator any unusual changes in resident
behavior that may require medical or psychological intervention.

3.
Observe, identify and report to administrator any early signs of
illness that may require medical intervention

4.
Assist with dispensing and documentation of medications.

5.
Implement and supervise
daily program activities, social functions and all sports and physical activities.

6.
Prepare all meals and snacks
as indicated on weekly menu plan

7.
Housekeeping and laundry duties are changing linen and towels weekly,
cleaning resident rooms, bathrooms and all rooms of the facility. Maintain
inventory of housekeeping supplies

8.
Ensure that facility
house rules are maintained on behalf of the residents,

9.
Protect and safeguard residents' property.

10. Familiarity with community services
and resources that the resident
may request or need.

Qualifications:

***IF CANDIDATE HAS CNA LICENSE, THEN WE WILL ADD AN ADDITIONAL 1-2 DOLLARS/HOUR DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE. ***
1) 18 years of age

2) High school diploma or GED equivalent

3)
3) First Aid and CPR Certified.

4)
Criminal fingerprint clearance for CCL.

5)
Licensed to drive in California

6) Declaration in writing of no prior criminal convictions other than minor traffic
violations.

7) Current health
screening and TB
clearance.

8)
Ability to speak
and understand English

9)
Health Screening and TB clearance

10) Good physical health and mentally capable
of performing assigned
tasks.

11) Knowledge of housekeeping and sanitation principles

12) Knowledge of good nutrition, food preparation, storage
and menu planning.

1 3) Knowledge of how to recognize signs
of illness and the need for medical intervention.

Service Level 4 direct care staff shall:

• Have a minimum

of six months of prior experience providing
direct supervision and special
services; or

• Within six months of beginning to provide direct supervision and special services in the facility, complete at

least 12 additional hours of continuing education as specified in subsection
(a)(3) above.

• Complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education

which meets the requirements specified in subsection (a)(3)
above within each twelve-month
period following the assumption of the duties of direct care staff.

• Direct care staff shall complete

any additional training
in a specific knowledge
area(s) which has been identified as needing improvement in the written
notification pursuant to Section 56033(d)(2).

• Successful completion of the competency-based training

and passage of the competency test required by Section 56033(a)(1) or (2) shall
satisfy the direct care staff continuing education requirements specified in this section
for a direct care staff for the year in which the training is
satisfactorily completed.

• For direct care staff, passing the challenge test without

attending the competency-based training required by Section 56033(a)(1) or (2)
shall not satisfy the direct care staff continuing education requirements specified in this
section.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
