Job Summary
The Forensic Interviewer is responsible for providing developmentally and culturally appropriate, non-leading, legally defensible forensic interviews of children and adolescents in cases of alleged sexual and physical abuse and other cases of alleged child maltreatment referred to the Valley Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct developmentally appropriate, legally sound interviews of child abuse victims ranging in age from 3-17 (with some special exceptions).
  • Coordinate the scheduling of interviews with the multi-disciplinary team members.
  • Be proficient in the CAC model.
  • Manage the recording and duplicating process to disseminate copies of the interview to team members.
  • Maintain the interview case data base and ensure all information is accurate and up to date.
  • Facilitate pre/post interview multidisciplinary case staffing and make referrals for counseling when deemed appropriate.
  • Attend and actively participate in monthly multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings; maintain positive professional relationships with all MDT members.
  • Act as a resource for the MDT and community members in the field of forensic interviewing, child abuse, and childhood trauma.
  • Work collaboratively and accept feedback from Lead Forensic Interviewer.
  • Share coverage with the afterhours scheduling line.
  • Maintain qualifications through training and peer review; remain current with forensic interviewing, child abuse, and child development research and literature and best practices.
  • Provide court testimony as required.
  • Provide community outreach as needed.
  • Comply with all Center policies and procedures, including adherence to the confidentiality policy.
  • Maintain cross-cultural awareness and trauma informed practice in the performance of all duties.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned.
  • Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned or added to the scope of work for this position.

Job Specifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Sufficient knowledge of child protection/law enforcement systems, child development, child interviewing, and the effects of child trauma.
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism and make changes accordingly.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with impeccable communication skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively within a team.
  • Ability to work in high pressure situations containing highly sensitive content.
  • Ability to quickly and easily build rapport across populations.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Documentation of 40-hours of nationally or state recognized forensic interview training that includes child development preferred, but can be obtained.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team setting is preferred but not required.

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and DSS background check.
  • Be willing to work a flexible schedule to include occasional evenings and weekends.

Reporting Structure and Position Status:

This is a full-time position consisting of 40 hours a week, reporting directly to the Executive Director. This is a grant funded position with the organization continuing to seek funding to renew this position past the initial first year grant period. Salary range for this position is $48,500-$54,000 based on experience.
