Description
The Coordinator of Student Wellness & Academic Support will be responsible for working with students to determine their problem areas, identify obstacles, and create a plan to achieve their spiritual, social, academic, and health wellness goals. The Coordinator of Student Wellness & Academic Support will provide consultation services and provide student updates to the teachers, staff, and administration and ensure that the program is progressing properly towards good health.
Role And Responsibilities
- Acts as student advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations
- Guides students in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with identified problems
- Plans, organizes, and leads structured programs of counseling activities for students
- Conducts student mediation (including but not limited to conflict resolution, anger management and dispute settlement)
- Guides students/families to outside Christian counseling services as necessary
- Attend student discipline, wellness and academic progress meetings involving school staff and parents to aid in developing plans for support
- Act as a main point of contact for student academic progress, being responsible for course scheduling, academic plans and taking part in new student orientation meetings
- Assist with school testing including implementation and other related duties
- Monitor student academic progress, identifying students in need of intervention, providing support and communicating academic interventions to families, faculty and coaches
- Meeting students as needed for a variety of reasons, including wellness and academic needs
- Be able to work in a very fast-paced environment, changing gears often and being able to respond quickly to the needs of faculty, administration, students and parents
- Communicate effectively with parents and resolve conflicts in a biblical and positive manner
- Utilize Renweb (student information system) and assist in creating the master schedule.
- Be able to utilize Microsoft office products to generate written reports, analyze data, create student data spreadsheets needed for standardized testing administration
- Serves as a member of the Crisis team.
- Adheres to Valley Christian policies, procedures/processes, and codes.
- Performs other related duties assigned by the K8 Principal & Vice Principals

- Experience in student mediation
- Experience with crisis team interventions
- Experience planning, organizing, and leading structured programs of counseling activities for students
- Must have and maintain a valid level one IVP fingerprint card
- Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver license
- Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Ability to multi-task with organization
- Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions
- Must be able to travel in state as needed.
- High school diploma or GED
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in counseling or related field
- Experience in serving in an education setting (supporting students, parents & staff)
- Strong supervisory skills and leadership skills
- Established skills in addressing student behavioral and wellness challenges
- Use a computer (visual and keyboarding) for long periods of time
- Able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time when necessary
- At times requires stooping, bending, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing stairs (2-story)
- Use of hands, fingers, arms to reach, grip and maneuver objects
- Must be able to respond quickly to sounds (fire/security alarms)
- Work in noisy and crowded school environment
- Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings when needed
- Frequent walking throughout the campus
