Compensation:
$31,000 - $35,000

Professional Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in music, music education, or a related
field or equivalent qualifications
- Valid Ohio teaching certificate preferred
- Proficiency in musical instruments and knowledge of music theory and music appreciation
Job Responsibilities:
Instrumental Music Program Development and Management
- Organize and oversee performances of marching band, pep band, jazz band, soloists, and ensembles.
Performances include but are not limited to concerts, football games, basketball games, pep rallies,
assemblies, and parades.
- Establish student performance expectations and requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Valley Christian Schools policies pertaining to student performances and events.
- Create and implement fundraising opportunities for students participating in the instrumental music program.
- Utilize evaluative findings to determine program effectiveness and to ensure that program improvement is
continuous and responds to student needs.
- Participate in professional development to remain current on trends in music education.
- Recommend policies to the VCS administrative team to improve the instrumental music program.
- Ensure the effective management of funds allocated to the instrumental music program.
- Compile cost estimates for required program resources based upon documented program needs.
- Maintain current inventory of all instruments and equipment in the instrumental music program.
- Oversee processes of cleaning, repairing, and storing all band equipment.
Classroom Management and Instruction
- Develop and implement lesson plans for instrumental music classes that provide practical instruction with
musical instruments and that develop students’ understanding of the fundamentals of music. Provide written
evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
- Align lesson plans to the Ohio Department of Education state standards for music.
- Implement instructional strategies utilizing activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of
the learning styles and needs of the students.
- Evaluate student performance and track student progress in the development of instrumental skills. Offer
constructive feedback to students on areas for improvement and celebrate student achievements.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and that encourages a love for music.
- Manage student behavior and implement the VCS progressive student discipline policy in accordance with
the VCS Student Code of Conduct.
- Ensure students use equipment, materials, and facilities allocated to the instrumental music program
with care and respect.
Professional Relationships and Collaboration
- Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, teachers, and administrators
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
