Job Summary:
The Daytime Crisis Specialist is responsible for answering the daytime crisis phone line and responding to crisis calls from Valley Cities clients and community members. The Daytime Crisis Specialist will also provide crisis outreach. Crisis outreach is primarily in collaboration with the King County Designated Crisis Responders (DCRs) and hospital providers regarding Valley Cities (VC) clients admitted to an Emergency Department (ED) who are currently presenting with behavioral health concerns. At times, the Daytime Crisis Specialist may be asked to assess a VC client in other institutional settings (i.e., jails) or in the community. During outreach, the Daytime Crisis Specialist will provide a complex, acute risk assessment that clinically supports the client’s safety and appropriate level of care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide crisis services to clients of Valley Cities including mental health crisis risk assessment, stabilization, support, and referral services. These services may be provided by telephone or during outreach.
- Demonstrate clinical proficiency in evaluating suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, danger to self/others/property and grave disability.
- Use clinical judgement and de-escalation skills when working with clients who may be in distress or experiencing a crisis.
- Coordinate client care with client’s ongoing care team at Valley Cities.
- Coordinate client care with hospital staff, DCRs, and other community partners.
- Prepare written affidavits/declarations and revocations per requirements of the Superior Court of King County, with adequate knowledge regarding the legal criteria for involuntary hospitalization.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Valley Cities employees with a bachelor’s degree in the social or behavioral sciences who have demonstrated proficiency with the required skills. Former VC employees must be in good standing with the agency and/or meet the agency's eligibility criteria for rehire
OR
- Master’s degree in the social or behavioral sciences preferred, meeting King County and Washington State Mental Health Professional (MHP) requirements as set forth in WAC 388-865-0150; RCW 71.05.020(27) and RCW 71.34.020(14)
Experience:
- Crisis assessment and response; using SAFE-T for suicidal ideation
- Safety planning with clients over the phone and in-person
- Knowledge regarding the ITA process
Additional Qualifications:
- Ability to obtain Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration upon hire
- Pass required background checks
