Position Description
Valley City State University (VCSU) invites applications for a dedicated and innovative online or face to face Director of Student Teaching and Field Placement to lead its student teaching program and support practicum field placements within the university's teacher education program. The Director will play a pivotal role in preparing teacher candidates for the transition from student to professional educator by fostering high-quality, field-based experiences. Collaborating with university faculty, school district personnel, and community partners across North Dakota and beyond, the Director will ensure that teacher candidates receive meaningful, equitable, and supportive learning opportunities. This position also requires leveraging technology for communication, organization, data collection and record keeping, and to facilitate virtual and in-person engagement with students, schools, and partners. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with others in a collegial and collaborative manner.
- Oversee all aspects of the student teaching program, including placements, supervision, and evaluations.
- Support and coordinate practicum field placements, ensuring alignment with coursework and program standards.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with school districts, cooperating teachers, and university supervisors across North Dakota and the United States.
- Ensure compliance with state licensure requirements and accreditation standards.
- Mentor and provide guidance to teacher candidates as they navigate their student teaching experience.
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate coursework and clinical field-based experiences effectively.
- Facilitate training and professional development opportunities for cooperating teachers and university supervisors.
- Leverage technology to support organization, data collection, communication, evaluation, and professional development.
- Master’s degree in education or a related field.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and educational innovation.
- At least five years of K-12 teaching experience.
- Willingness to teach both face-to-face on campus and in the online format.
- Demonstrated passion for teaching, learning, and instructional delivery, with a positive and collaborative attitude.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proven ability to cultivate productive relationships with students, colleagues, and community partners to build a strong culture of collaboration.
- Dedication to fostering inclusive and equitable learning environments for diverse learners.

Compensation
The salary for this position is commensurate with qualifications and typically ranges from $55,000 to $61,000 for an Assistant Professor rank. This position is a 10.5-month, full-time position.
