What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Community-Based Services position at Valley Community Services Board?
Help support the Community-Based Services team make difference in the lives of individuals experiencing mental health or co-occurring disorders. Be a symbol of leadership and a mentor to the members of Community-Based Services. This position requires experience working with individuals who may be dually diagnosed with mental health and substance use disorders. This position will oversee multiple MH programs within Community-Based Services. This position will be responsible for ensuring the program areas are in compliance with licensure and funding source regulations, maintain program budgets, managing staffing patterns, and service delivery. This position will provide both clinical and administrative supervision to supervisors of MH programs within the Community-Based Services continuum of care.
LMHP or LMHP-eligible or Degree in a Human Services field with 3-5 years of clinical experience. Leadership experience preferred. Valid VA driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.

Essential Functions
Service Delivery & Management
- Proactively monitors and adjusts service delivery in order to ensure all aspects are compliant with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
- Understands and implements industry best practices.
- Reviews and approves services in Credible within two days of service submission.
- Runs reports in Credible and monitors monthly or daily billing of programs.
- Reviews financial reports for all programs with Director and CFO; adjusts staffing as needed to meet community and business needs.
Leadership
- Recruits, hires, and provides opportunities for staff growth and development in the field of mental health. Promotes a healthy and supportive culture where ideas are exchanged, and staff feel valued.
- Explores Evidenced-Based strategies to enhance effective continuum of services for Community-Based Services
- Fosters and maintain a healthy, productive, and appropriate workplace culture within the Human Resources Department and Information Technology (IT) Department.
- Provides guidance, direction, and support to the IT Department.
- Proactively coaches and engages direct reports.
- Maintains a rhythm of open and on-going communication through team and one-on-one meetings.
- Establishes a method of ensuring healthy accountability within the team, including regular feedback, coaching, and collaboration with team members.

- State Hospital Discharge Planning
Monitors Program Compliance
- Serves as a subject matter expert for laws, regulations, and best practices within defined areas of responsibility.
- Ensures staff have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to engage clients and colleagues in a safe and effective manner.
- Conducts chart audits for programs under purview.
- Serves as a member of the Credible Administrative Team.
Minimum Requirements
All applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered qualified for the position:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services and at least 5 years’ experience in Human Services field, preferably in Mental Health Case Management or ACT.
Preferred Qualification
The most competitive candidates will have one or more of the following characteristics:
- Master’s Degree in Human Services. Experience with clinical and administrative supervision, recruitment and retention, and program development and evaluation.
- Fastidious detail management and organizational skills are strongly preferred.
