NATURE OF WORK: With supervision, the incumbent will serve as a personal guide, mentor and role model as well as a navigator to helpful recovery resources and a liaison and advocate to professional and community supports and resources. The Peer Recovery Support Specialist will also assist the client to develop and maintain and monitor his/her individual Wellness Recovery Plan. The Peer Recovery Support Specialist's duties include providing outreach, support, and recovery check-ups in the community with addicted individuals and their families. This position also serves as a Residential Assistant in the SUD Residential Programs completing job duties identified below.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Orient the resident to the program; primarily to the schedule, the rules, the living environment, and program expectations of the resident.
- Monitor residents’ behavior and activities and facilitates appropriate interventions provided when needed, recording this clearly and concisely according to program procedure.
- Coordinate the oversight of the resident’s chores, purchase needed supplies, and note all needed house repairs.
- Work actively with New Beginning and ACT Unit clients
- Provide mentoring and modeling through life experience to individuals experiencing substance use problems.
- Provide Supportive Group and Individual Counseling in accordance with the treatment schedule.
- Assist with Authorization processes for continuity of care and service delivery.
- Assist management in covering unfilled shifts as needed and available.
- Link clients to available resources including but not limited to: continuing education/Professional Development, safe housing, recovery supports, self-help groups, medical/health facilities, and substance abuse and/or mental health services.
- Serve as a liaison to the client's formal and informal supports including but not limited to: their referral source, family members, client's sponsor, treatment provider, and faith-based support.
- Maintain working relationships with staff of Valley's programs and other agency or institutions in order to provide awareness of New Beginnings, a 3.1 LOC program and the availability of Peer Recovery Support Specialist.
- Receive on-going supervision and training in order to provide Peer Recovery Support Specialist services to the highest degree and the benefit of the community and individuals served.
- Upon completion or current Bachelor degree in a Human Services field, conducting comprehensive psychosocial assessments and creating client centered treatment plans.
- Assist in training and future supervision of PRSS staff.
- Prepare and maintain all required documentation in accordance with Medicaid guidelines including but not limited to Supportive Group and Individual progress notes.
- Assist consumers in crisis situations involving social, emotional, health, or other problems.
- Provide outreach and early intervention to individuals in the early onset/stage of recovery or remission as well as those experiencing symptoms of relapse.
- Provide support by assisting consumers in identifying and resolving problems and making effective use of resources.
- Adhere to Valley's Standards of Conduct and Compliance.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Provide mentoring to new staff.
- Provide training to staff on current procedures, policy, state and federal regulations.
- Provide documentation training.
- Provide training in working with clients in their role as a PRSS, such as but not limited to, healthy boundaries, professional outreach and linkage with other agencies and service both in house and in the community.
- Transportation of clients to appointments/activities in the community using a company vehicle.
- OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.
MINIMUM OUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or certified high school equivalency.
- Knowledge of treatment resources including a working knowledge of the 12-Step Fellowships.
- Certification as a Peer Recovery Support Specialist with2 years of personal recovery experience
- Ability to comply with Valley's and Division departmental safety procedures.
- Ability to read, write, understand and speak the English language.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Current CPR/First-Aid Certificate or ability to be trained.
