Summary
The Valley County Assessor's Office is seeking an Appraiser to conduct evaluations of residential real estate properties. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting on-site inspections and analyzing data to accurately determine the market value of residential properties for taxation purposes. This role requires a strong understanding of appraisal principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
This is a full-time position with full employee benefits.
Typical Duties & Responsibilities
Appraisers conduct on-site inspections of residential properties to gather data on property characteristics, including size, age, condition, and features. They analyze market data, including sales, listings, and economic trends, to determine property values. They utilize appraisal software and databases to record and manage property data, apply various appraisal approaches (sales comparison, cost, and income) to estimate property values, and review and verify property data and appraisal reports for accuracy and completeness. They also respond to taxpayer inquiries and provide explanations of property assessments, prepare and present appraisal reports and documentation, maintain accurate and up-to-date records of property assessments, stay current with appraisal standards, regulations, and best practices, and assist in the development and maintenance of property valuation models.

Typical Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent;
- Possession of a valid driver’s license;
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, specifically Microsoft Excel;
- Ability to obtain a Property Tax Appraiser Certification within one year of hire;
- Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines;
- Good math skills;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Willingness to work both inside and outside and in all weather conditions.
