Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced HR Director to lead and manage our human resources functions within the HVAC Controls and Electrical Contracting industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in workforce planning, compliance with construction and trade industry labor laws, and experience in recruiting skilled tradespeople, project managers, and administrative professionals. This role will play a critical part in developing HR strategies that drive employee engagement, safety, and company growth while ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic HR Leadership
- Develop and implement HR strategies that support the company's growth in the HVAC and electrical contracting sectors.
- Collaborate with leadership to align workforce planning with project demands and long-term business goals.
- Drive initiatives to enhance company culture, employee retention, and productivity.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Oversee recruitment efforts to attract top HVAC technicians, electricians, project managers, and administrative staff.
- Implement strategies to address skilled labor shortages and develop apprenticeship programs.
- Partner with trade schools, unions, and industry organizations to build a pipeline of qualified candidates.
Employee Relations & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, including prevailing wage laws and union regulations where applicable.
- Manage employee relations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes with a focus on fair and consistent policies.
- Maintain and update employee handbooks, policies, and procedures in compliance with OSHA, EEOC, and other industry standards.
Performance Management & Development
- Oversee performance evaluations and provide guidance on career development pathways for technicians, electricians, and office staff.
- Develop training programs focused on technical skills, leadership development, and safety compliance.
- Support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within the workforce.
Compensation, Benefits & Safety Compliance
- Design competitive compensation and benefits packages to attract and retain skilled tradespeople and industry professionals.
- Ensure adherence to union agreements and prevailing wage requirements, where applicable.
- Work closely with safety managers to enforce OSHA compliance and promote a strong safety culture.
HR Operations & Technology
- Leverage HR software and technology to improve recruitment, onboarding, and compliance tracking.
- Develop HR metrics and reporting tools to guide data-driven decision-making.
- Enhance employee onboarding and retention programs to improve workforce stability.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5 years of HR leadership experience, preferably in the HVAC, electrical contracting, or construction industries.
- Strong knowledge of labor laws, trade industry compliance, and HR best practices.
- Experience working with unions, prevailing wage laws, and apprenticeship programs is a plus.
- Proven ability to recruit, retain, and develop a skilled trade workforce.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) is a plus.
