What are the responsibilities and job description for the Consumer Loan Underwriter position at Valley First Credit Union?
The Consumer Loan Underwriter's primary purpose is to review, analyze and underwrite consumer loan applications received through our direct lending channels within delegated underwriting limits and authority in accordance with Federal and State Lending Laws and Regulations, as well as Valley First Credit Union?s Policies and Procedures.
Duties and Responsibilites:
- Review and analyze applications for consumer loans submitted through our loan origination platform. Gather necessary information to make a sound lending decision based on each applicant?s credit profile and the Credit Union's Lending Policies and Procedures. Escalate loan requests outside of guidelines or approval parameters to Lending Management
- Underwrite loan applications and approve, counter or decline requests to extend credit within lending authority. Maintain knowledge of all consumer loan products and decision processes for direct and indirect loan products
- Communicate loan decisions with Member Service Specialist and Consumer Loan Closing Specialist, including the ability to discuss loan denials, loan alternatives, rate computation in a clear, concise and courteous manner
- Backup underwriter for the indirect consumer loan underwriter when necessary
- Properly evaluate and recommend any exceptions to policy by presenting a well thought out analysis to Lending Management
- Evaluates credit bureau reports, income documentation, collateral valuation reports flood certifications, title information and other factors relevant to underwriting consumer loans
- Cross qualify loan products when the opportunity presents itself
- Recommend alterations or revisions to Lending Policies and Procedures as needed
- Must comply with the Credit Union?s policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, The Patriot Act, and the Office of foreign Assets Control
- Other duties as assigned
Education, Experience & Skills
- Five or more years of similar or related lending experience, including time spent in preparatory positions.
- A two-year college degree or completion of specialized course study at a business or trade school
- A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.
Pay Range & Work Schedule
- This position is a Tier 9 with an hourly range of $26.72 to $40.08
- The anticipated pay rate for new hires is between the low-end and midpoint of the range, depending on experience
- The pay rates listed above are based upon the geographic location of our Administrative Offices in Modesto, CA using the greater Central Valley area for our pay range calculations
- Full Time, typically 36-40 hours per week. Schedule will be based around departments needs but will typically be:
- Monday to Friday- 8:30am-5:30pm
- Flexibility to occasionally work early or late hours, typically with advance notice
Salary : $27 - $40
