Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Behavioral Health Director, the Behavioral Health Therapist is responsible for providing assessments, diagnosing, psychotherapy, and Counseling in an outpatient setting. The Therapist will provide services to a mixed caseload, including adults, adolescents, children, and families experiencing mental health issues, substance abuse issues, communication challenges, and family/couples conflict. The Therapist will be working with a mental health team providing a broad spectrum of clients. The Therapist will schedule, screen, complete diagnostic evaluations, and develop therapy plans with clients. The Therapist will design and manage all clinical aspects of the treatment program in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality of records related to clients' treatment.
- Implements and maintains the Valley Health Care, Inc. and Valley Health Care, Inc. Behavioral Health Department's philosophy, principles, and procedures in all facets of their performance.
- Provide services and conduct themselves in a manner consistent with their professional Code of Ethics (ACA Code of Ethics, WV Counselor Association Code of Ethics, APA Code of Ethics, WV Social work Code of Ethics, National SW Code of Ethics).
- Provide clinically Evidenced Based Counseling techniques based on mental health assessment and diagnosis.
- Complete timely and accurate documentation within three working days and meets audited tested requirements.
- Assure continuous reimbursable sessions for all assigned clients.
- Develop and implement measurable treatment plans with evidenced-based practice for all clients based on diagnostic evaluation, assessments, clinical experience, and knowledge.
- Complete Annual Global Assessments to gauge clients' progress and completion of services.
- Fully participate in staff development opportunities offered to enhance professional growth, especially to maintain license, certification, and identified program performance skills.
- Provide staff development to other therapists with new information obtained from training and continuing education.
- Take part in planned supervision and case consultation.
- Guide clients in developing skills and strategies for dealing with problems and symptoms of their diagnosis.
- Foster independence in clients' personal growth and avoid developing dependence on the Therapist.
- Provide individual, family, and couples counseling services based on clients' diagnoses.
- Modify treatment activities and approaches as needed to comply with changes in clients’ status.
- Communicate with families, school staff, probation, parole, law enforcement, Department of Health and Human Resources, and other involved parties on "Release of Information" to exchange necessary information during the treatment process.
- Provide collateral consultation as appropriate and court testimony as required.
- Provide consultation to other therapists and staff in the Behavioral Health Department.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling strategies and clients’ progress in resolving identified issues and moving towards completion of therapy goals.
- Conduct activities related to compliance with federal and state laws related to mandated reporting, HIPPA, and Data Privacy Act.
- Learn about new developments in the field by completing continuing education courses and readings as mandated by your individual license.
- Document all contacts with clients, billable or non-billable, in electronic records as they occur.
- Participate in program development and assist in duties as assigned in these developments.
- Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports and complies with the values, policies, and practices of Valley Health Care, Inc.
- Actively takes part in agency and program activities. This includes agency meetings, supervision, and consultation.
- Participates in required agency and team meetings, as well as other meetings as required by supervisor and program structure.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and cultural responsiveness.
- Ability to work with diverse types of Mental Health Diagnoses.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of staff and client population.
- Ability to assess crisis situations and intervene appropriately.
- Familiarity with DSM V and ICD 10 and diagnostic techniques.
- Knowledge or ability to learn and practice trauma informed principles and practices.
- Maintain a flexible work schedule to provide efficient services to clients and Behavioral Health Department on an as-need basis.
- Maintain active and appropriate licensure with the State of WV.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by Director of Behavioral Health, Director of Operations and/or Chief Executive Officer.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Two years of experience in a mental health setting.
- Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counseling.
- Active license in social work, psychology or Counseling
- Experience in providing Counseling to children, adolescents and/or adults
- Verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external consumers
- Computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Will need to have current and keep current licenses as required by federal, state, or other regulatory agencies.
