Job Description
The Emergency Department Clinical Educator is responsible for the development and application of evidenced-based nursing practice standards to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Oversees evidence-based, individualized, effective care to patients and families in an environment of clinical excellence.
Responsibilities and Duties
Oversees the development, planning, presentation and evaluation of educational activities within areas of expertise which fosters the development of competencies in the learner.
Provides and supports Shared Governance and professional practice activities to achieve departmental and overall nursing organizational goals.
Develops / oversees the orientation of new employees on nursing units including development and maintenance of weekly orientation objectives and monitoring each employee's progress.
Supports house wide professional practice education programs such as nursing assessment, preceptor classes, shared governance and professional practice ladder.
Understands Pl principles and oversees process improvement and risk management issues.
Serves to enhance staff nurse retention by role modeling professional practice.
Tracks employee education core requirements for specific area of nursing teams and assists team members in enrollment of required courses.
In addition to above requirements, clinical educator will work in clinical capacity based on needs of the department to maintain competency and relevant understanding to the education offered to team members.
Education
Master's degree required or obtained within two years of hire.
Experience
Registered Nurse License is required. Based on primary state of residency and in accordance with current Virginia Board of Nursing Regulations, must be licensed or eligible to practice pending licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia with either multi state license, under the Nurse Licensure Compact OR Single-state license, valid in Virginia only. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) -AHA approved is required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association required.
Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association required.
National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification required.
Trauma Nurse Core Competency (TNCC) – Emergency Nurses Association preferred.
Registered Nurse Certification in specialty preferred.
Qualifications
Expertise in a clinical specialty area.
Knowledge and skills to develop adult education programs.
Understanding of Performance Improvement and outcomes management.
