Job Description

The Coordinator plans, facilitates, and/or develops Substance Use Disorder (SUD) awareness, prevention, and educational opportunities to the community and employees. This includes, but is not limited to, the development of tailored presentations to targeted community groups, and resource materials to be made available to the public and to staff. Coordinates and participates in formal community health and safety fairs, fundraising events, and other scheduled opportunities. The Coordinator works with both external community educational, social services, and public health/mental health entities and internal teams for the purpose of identifying SUD patients and helping to develop a treatment plan. This will be in collaboration with the Peer Recovery Specialists or other agencies such as Life or Drugs/Potomac Highlands Guild or Social Workers, etc. The Coordinator is expected to supervise and/or oversee Peer Recovery Staff providing educational and testing related activities, and to interact on an as-needed basis with other staff, both paid and unpaid. The Coordinator is expected to work closely with Case Managers and with volunteers identified as qualified to assist the education program. The initial task is for program development and establishing Peer Recovery Specialists at both hospitals for SUD intervention. This Coordinator will also ensure staff and medical staff are educated about the program and resources.

Direct outreach with individuals with substance use disorders is required. The Coordinator may be required to assess, treat, problem solve, educate and connect patients to agencies providing treatment for the issue(s) at hand. This position also requires employee to interact with family members/support personnel.

Attends all hospital required trainings to function as a hospital employee. The Coordinator will communicate with hospital staff and medical staff throughout hospitalization or Emergency Department visit regarding the risks for this patient population.

Establishes a plan for data collection and monitoring to ensure ongoing sustainability. Quality assessment and reporting of the SUD program will be required. Establishing a MAT Program or similar program between ED and outpatient referring service required.

Education

Bachelor’s degree is required.

Experience

Community knowledge via volunteerism or member of community civic group(s).

Certification & Licensure

Current driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.

Qualifications

Demonstrates knowledge of basic social counseling techniques required.

Flexibility to travel short distances and adjust hours of work (weekends possible) required.

Compassion for others is a mandatory trait that is needed to be successful in this role.

Maintaining confidentiality is a must.
