Job Description
The Emergency Medical Technician Student (EMT-S) is an attendee of the Valley Health EMT-basic class and is responsible to read and understand materials, complete classwork timely, and prepare for the National EMT test. The EMT-S will be compensated for their hours of class time and field rotations. This position is designed to provide the EMT-S hands-on learning with in-class scenarios and field rotations. The EMT-S will be eligible for promotion to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) after successfully passing the National Registry exam with a requirement of continued employment with VMT.
EMT-S is required to meet a minimum grade of 80 percent in order to remain eligible to test for their National Registry exam. Must attend every class or make prior arrangements to make-up all work due to the fast pace of the class.
Education
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Certification & Licensures
Valid driver's license is required.
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of EMT program.
VA EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Certificate) or approved equivalent required by end of class.
AHA CPR is required.
Qualifications
Satisfy and maintain the requirements for valid driver's license is required.
Have and maintain a driving record that is acceptable to the company’s insurance carrier is required.
Minimum Of 18 Years Of Age Is Required.
Basic level ability navigating in Microsoft Windows and ability to accurately gather and enter data into an electronic medical record in a timely manner is required.
