About the Role :

As the inaugural Pediatric Psychologist at Winchester Medical Center, you will have the unique opportunity to build the Pediatric Psychology department from its inception.  This includes developing and implementing programs that address the unique mental and behavioral health needs of children and adolescents.  You will have the autonomy to design the structure and scope of the service, allowing you to create a model program for pediatric mental healthcare.

Responsibilities (notably to be determined by you) :

  • Develop and implement comprehensive Pediatric Psychology services, including inpatient consultation, outpatient individual and family therapy, and group interventions.
  • Provide evidence-based assessments and treatment for a wide range of psychological, emotional, and behavioral issues common among children and adolescents, such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, trauma, and disruptive behavior disorders.
  • Opportunity to collaborate closely with Pediatricians and other healthcare professionals, to ensure coordinated and holistic care.
  • Partner closely with our Pediatric Psychiatry team to provide comprehensive and integrated mental health services for children and adolescents.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs for staff, patients, families, and the community on topics related to child development, mental health, and parenting.
  • Participate in program development and quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of Pediatric Psychology services.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all patient encounters.
  • Stay current with the latest research and best practices in Pediatric Psychology.
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive work environment.

Qualifications :

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology or a related field.
  • Completion of an APA-accredited internship and postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology with significant experience working with children and adolescents.
  • Licensure or license eligibility to practice psychology in Virginia.
  • Demonstrated expertise in conducting comprehensive assessments and providing evidence-based interventions for children and adolescents.
  • Strong understanding of child development and the unique mental health needs of children and adolescents across different age groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills, especially with children, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • A passion for improving the lives of children and families and a commitment to providing compassionate care.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in program development and implementation is highly desired.
