Job Description
The Technical Coordinator, Hematology, is responsible for the oversight of the Hematology unit of the Laboratory, which includes patient result reporting, quality control, quality assurance, and compliance with accreditation standards.
Responsibilities and Duties
Serves as subject matter expert in Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis and contributes to strategic planning for intradepartmental and interdepartmental initiatives.
Maintains technical competency in Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis and ensures ongoing and documented competency of departmental and generalist staff members.
Evaluates and implements new technologies in conjunction with intradepartmental and interdepartmental team members.
Performs, delegates, and/or oversees departmental training for new hires and ensures completion of training checklist.
Performs, delegates, and/or oversees equipment maintenance; ensures maintenance is completed on schedule and with appropriate documentation.
Performs, delegates, and/or oversees performance, accuracy and documentation of quality control and quality assurance programs.
Serves as administrator for QC Vendor applications and Middleware; programs and updates quality control parameters for all assays in multiple platforms.
Resolves technical and department operational problems.
Provides departmental support for LIS, Quality Assurance, and Education initiatives in conjunction with other team members
Maintains adequate inventory of supplies to ensure continuity of service.
Assists in personnel scheduling.
Provides insight for personnel performance evaluations, goal planning, and performance improvement.
Participates in intradepartmental and interdepartmental facility meetings and committees; generates reports and presents data in areas of expertise.
Reviews and revises procedure manuals according accreditation standards; creates new policies and procedures when indicated; communicates policy updates to appropriate staff.
Education
Associates Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science required
Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science preferred
Experience
5 years of clinical laboratory experience with a focus in Hematology required
2 Years Of Experience As Hematology Supervisor Preferred
Certification & Licensure
American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent board certification required
Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
Demonstrates knowledge/competency in providing service to patients of all ages including neonate, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric required
