What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wound Care Licensed Practical Nurse position at Valley Health?
The Certified Hyperbaric Technologist is an LPN that performs duties under direct supervision of the RN or physician. Is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems. Is responsible for the daily inspections and care for the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems. When not performing duties with the Hyperbaric Chamber, the LPN will support the outpatient Wound Care Center. The LPN will assist with patient throughput, scheduling, and perform wound care, including the application of advanced wound care modalities.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in patient preparation for treatment.
Reinforce education as it relates to hyperbaric therapy.
Keep complete and accurate patient records as they pertain to treatment documentation.
Perform duties and procedures as directed and supervised by RN or physician.
Perform hyperbaric chamber operations and system maintenance as required.
Participate in quality assurance program.
Collection, reporting and documentation of data.
Support clinical hyperbaric facility accreditation.
Participate in facility safety program.
Have a clear understanding of all clinical departmental policies, procedures, and protocols.
Perform vital signs, blood sugar testing, non-invasive and non-sterile treatments.
Perform transcutaneous oximetry independently; once trained and issued certificate of added competency.
Communicate with the physicians and nurses on patient care issues.
Complies with all of the facility policies, procedures and protocols.
Consult the supervising registered nurse regarding wound care or hyperbaric medicine.
Maintain an adequate supply inventory, properly disposes of expired and/or contaminated items.
Maintain a clean, safe working environment.
Maintain annual hyperbaric medicine specific competencies with documented checklists.
Maintain the required number of continuing education units for the designated hyperbaric certification to ensure renewal eligibility.
Participate in lectures/discussion specially related to operational hyperbaric safety issues.
Maintain annual hospital required competencies, annual health screenings and certifications as appropriate.
Practice Guidelines:
Function within state’s scope of practice for the vocation the employee maintains current.
Work under the direct supervision of physician or registered nurse.
Experience
Working knowledge of all applicable hyperbaric safety codes and regulations that govern the operation of the hyperbaric medicine facility
Working knowledge of decompression procedures
Certification & Licensure
Licensed Practical Nurse licensed in the state for which duties are performed required
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved is required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required
Completion of a National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology approved hyperbaric medicine introductory course required within 3 months of hire
Become certified in hyperbaric medicine upon eligibility or within 12 months
Qualifications
Working knowledge of all applicable hyperbaric safety codes and regulations that govern the operation of the hyperbaric medicine facility
Working knowledge of decompression procedures
Complete hyperbaric medicine orientation with documented checklist
