Supervisor: Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program Manager
Under the guidance and leadership of the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) Manager and the Los Angeles Emissary, The Youth and Young Adult Coordinator will lead and support a dynamic group of five youth leaders on the Youth Action Board (YAB), also known as the Youth and Young Adult SPA 1 Team (YYA). This position involves managing grant activities, tracking budgets, coordinating board initiatives, and ensuring the professional development of the team. The Coordinator will design and implement a training and mentorship framework that equips board members with the necessary skills, resources, and support to thrive in their roles. This is a part-time, flexible position, ideal for someone passionate about youth empowerment, community engagement, and project management.
Essential Job Functions:
· Oversee and guide the YYA members, providing ongoing mentorship and support
· Lead regular meetings with the YYA to ensure clear communication, goal setting, and progress tracking
· Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team environment for board members
· Assist in the preparation and submission of grant applications, ensuring alignment with program goals
· Track grant expenditures and maintain accurate records to stay within budget
· Manage and report on project budgets, ensuring proper use of funds for board activities and initiatives
· Plan, coordinate, and execute YYA projects and initiatives, ensuring they align with the goals and objectives of the organization
· Support board members in organizing and leading events or outreach efforts
· Ensure deadlines and deliverables are met, providing logistical support as needed
· Develop and implement a training plan for YYA members, focusing on leadership development, grant management, and other relevant skills
· Provide one-on-one mentorship and coaching to board members to support their growth and contributions
· Evaluate and adapt training materials and approaches based on the needs and feedback of the youth board members
· Maintain detailed trackers for activities, budgets, and grant deliverables
· Prepare and present regular reports on board activities and outcomes to leadership or stakeholders
· Keep accurate records of all YYA meetings, actions, and progress toward goals
· Knowledge and ability to navigate and utilize Social Media Platforms for the purpose of youth engagement, resource promotion, development of an online presence to assist youth, etc.
· Knowledge of marketing and creative platforms such as Canva
· Maintain professional relationships with offices of local Government, and City and County Departments
· Regularly review the board's charter, rules, and regulations, making updates as needed and voted on by the board
· Conduct interviews for prospective board members alongside current board members
· Facilitate mandatory meetings to ensure they are productive and align with the board's goals
· Actively collaborate with other youth action boards and the Los Angeles Emissary to align on shared goals and initiatives
· Submitting and issuing youth compensations
· Advocating for youth homelessness policy improvements
· Developing and implementing community outreach strategies
· Attending and participating in local government meetings or initiatives
· Be open and flexible to assist other departments as needed
· Engage effectively and constructively with the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program Manager and the YYA to make program refinements in the best interests of the YYA
· Use effective communication skills such as active and reflective listening to build rapport; utilize appropriate motivational interviewing interventions to increase positive outcomes
· Participate in staff meetings, individual and group supervision, case conferences, and training as required
· Adhere to agency policies and procedures including confidentiality, child abuse reporting, and code of ethics
· Additional tasks, projects, and or responsibilities as assigned by Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program Manager that are not outlined but which are an important part of the agency’s goals and/or program outcomes
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
· Clear understanding of the concepts of Housing First, Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, and the Coordinated Entry System
· Knowledge and understanding of policy, systems, and local programs that impact homeless persons and related public funding sources, regulations, requirements, and procedures
· Knowledge of best practice models for assisting homeless people with varying degrees of needs/conditions and have a strong understanding of contractual requirements/compliance and applicable performance measures
· Knowledge of issues facing homeless individuals (e.g. chronic health, substance abuse, mental health, domestic abuse and resources for undocumented individuals)
· Knowledge of community social service agencies and resources
· Proficiency in budget management and financial tracking
· Ability to provide constructive feedback and mentorship
· Proactive, with the ability to anticipate needs and challenges
· Work effectively under conditions of limited supervision, high stress and rapidly changing situations and circumstances
· Ability to handle common problems without supervisor intervention while knowing when supervisor participation is warranted

· Demonstrate the ability to utilize strong judgment and interpersonal skills to manage sensitive client interactions including with those who may be in distress with acute illness, substance use issues, co-morbidity of behavioral and physical health issues in addition to homelessness
· Project a professional demeanor and a high level of professionalism when dealing with sensitive matters
· Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral; must communicate professionally and positively with participants, co-workers, management, community partners, employers, landlords, and other service providers
· Promote cooperation and commitment within a team to achieve goals and objective; collaborate with team members, sharing ideas and differences openly; be receptive to new ideas and adapt to change as necessary
· Strict confidentiality must be observed as it relates to client information, agency business, program decisions and all other personal information

· Proficient with office communication equipment and machines (telephone, copier, calculator, fax machine, personal computer, laptop, computer printer and scanner)
· Proficient in use of laptop/desktop computer, Microsoft Windows and Office software programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google drive, and Canva platform
· Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment, while exercising sound judgment
· Able to work a flexible schedule; including nights, days, and weekends when needed
· Use of a personal vehicle may be required to travel in and around Antelope Valley and/or Los Angeles County and periodically transport participants
· Maintain professional boundaries and work collaboratively with participants, volunteers and staff
· Accountability – be on time for scheduled shifts
· Be able to read and write English
· Bilingual Preferred but not required
Qualifications & Experience:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Social/Human Services or related field, strongly preferred
· Individuals with lived experience in homelessness and foster care and/or probation strongly preferred
· Minimum 2 years in youth development, project management, or related fields. Prior experience working with youth boards, committees, or non-profits preferred.
· Passionate about youth empowerment and community engagement.
· Collaborative, patient, and skilled in fostering a supportive environment.
· Minimum one year experience working with and managing grants from Private, City, County, State and/or Federal funding agencies
· Experience with grant writing, reporting, and compliance is a plus.
· Strong knowledge of the social services field and/or successful management and implementation of homeless programs in the non-profit, government or private sector
· Education may be substituted by years of experience
