Valley Parent Co-Director and Teacher

Valley Parent is hiring for a 12 month year round Co-Director/ Teacher position, based on an average of 26 hours per week during the school year and 10 hours a week during the summer. During the school year, hours are typically shared between directors to cover the school programs and teaching responsibilities Monday through Friday, with additional weekly hours spent in evenings or afternoons for meetings or additional tasks. During the summer, hours can vary widely based on the needs of the school. The directors’ hours are not always consistent, and flexibility is important.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Someone who loves working with children ages 1-6 and their families. Valley Parent Preschool is a parent cooperative school. Parents and caregivers participate regularly in the classroom and in the running of the school business.
  • Must meet minimum state requirements. Valley Parent Qualifications for this position include:
  • A BS or BA in Early Childhood Education (ECE) with 3 additional units in administration OR a BS, BA, or AA degree with 15 additional ECE completed units and 3 additional units in administration, OR, Child Development Site Supervisor Permit or Child Development Program Director Permit issued by California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
  • 15 completed hours of health and safety training pursuant to Health and Safety Code including current CPR and pediatric First Aid certification
  • Experience in a cooperative preschool
  • Strong leadership qualities and ability to supervise other adults
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Commitment to continuing education to keep skills sharp
  • Be able to attend to children ages 1-6 years old who may weigh up to 55 pounds. Must be able to sit on the floor, squat to a child’s eye level, kneel, twist, supervise groups of children, reach and remove children from dangerous situations.
  • Mustbe comfortable in multiple roles, as a leader and as a part of the team:
  • Working in collaboration with the teaching staff to ensure adherence to health and safety requirements as outlined by the Licensing Board and Health and Human Services.
  • Being familiar with and following all requirements in Title 22, Fire Code, and Health and Safety Code.
  • Working in collaboration with the teaching staff to ensure that a varied, stimulating and age appropriate curriculum is available daily and that VPP’s developmental philosophy is upheld at all times.
  • Acting as an ongoing supervisor of the staff’s performance and interactions, keeping communication open, morale positive, including the entire team in collaboration, and helping each staff member with their own professional growth goals.
  • Partnering with the President to ensure the school operates smoothly and attending monthly board meetings.
  • Providing support to the Board through availability and open lines of communication.
  • Establishing and maintaining a rapport with the parents and caregivers of children who attend the school, being available to discuss any concerns they may have and responding promptly to all parent and caregiver communication.
  • Working together with families to help them support their children.
  • Overseeing our campus programs as well as our Explorer’s programs.

Additional Requirements if Hired:

  • Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Obtain a physician’s clearance, TB test, and proof of MMR, TDap, and Flu immunizations and boosters.
  • Livescan fingerprinting and DOJ background check clearance.
  • Complete Mandated Reporter training and all other requirements from Community Care Licensing.
  • Provide Valley Parent with an official set of educational transcripts.
