We are seeking a Patient Medical Collections Specialist to join our revenue cycle team. In this role, you will play a critical part in managing patient account balances, ensuring timely collections, and maintaining a positive patient experience.
Job Summary:
The Patient Medical Collections Specialist is responsible for working directly with patients to resolve outstanding balances, arrange payment plans, and address billing inquiries. The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills, a patient-first attitude, and a strong understanding of medical billing and collections practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contact patients with outstanding balances via phone, email, and written correspondence to secure payment.
- Provide detailed explanations of account charges, insurance coverage, and payment options.
- Negotiate payment arrangements, including setting up and monitoring payment plans when appropriate.
- Investigate and resolve patient disputes or discrepancies on their accounts.
- Collaborate with billing and insurance teams to resolve claim issues affecting patient balances.
- Accurately document all communications and account updates in the billing system.
- Generate and distribute patient statements as needed.
- Monitor aging reports and ensure timely follow-up on overdue accounts.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and all relevant regulations while handling patient financial information.
- Work in a phone queue to answer billing questions from patients regarding their bills, collect payments and utilize policies to set up payment plans.
- Verification of patient eligibility and use of eligibility tools either within an EMR or payer portals.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must live in Arizona.
- Ability to work in Zip code 85202
Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in medical billing, collections, or customer service, preferably in a healthcare setting. MFM/OBGYN experience preferred.
Skills:
- Knowledge of insurance billing, patient payment processes, and healthcare regulations.
- Proficiency in billing systems (e.g., Athenahealth, or similar software) and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on compassionate patient service.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to read and interpret EOB’s.
- Ability to review claims for errors in posting from the EOB
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
