Position Overview:
This position is responsible for assisting experienced service technicians in order to develop mechanical skills. The ideal candidate will be motivated to succeed in their training, have previous experience in similar activities and long term aspirations to be a Shop or Field Service Mechanic. Additionally, must be highly motivated, a quick learner and hard working person. Valid Driver License and acceptable driving record a must.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

- Assists assigned technician(s) as needed.
- Develop mechanical skills through assisting experienced service technicians and training in-house and through outside sources.
- To assist in all the maintenance and repair of all types of diesel engine vehicles.
- To assist in diagnosing vehicle defects and inform the Service Manager/ Foreman of work content.
- To assist in carrying out general repairs and major overhauls or replacement of engines and gear boxes as required.
- Performs safety inspections, oil changes, lubrication work, basic maintenance and minor repairs as directed.
- Runs errands, carries and delivers materials, tools and equipment.
- To assist in carrying out electrical work.
- Program computers.
- Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
- Operates hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
- Clean tools, equipment and prepare parts for inspection by service technician or supervisor.
- DPF cleaning and baking of filters.
- To ensure the security of vehicles/sites as appropriate, maintaining site in a safe place.
- Maintains neat and organized work area.
- Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- To record all times and attendance hours to facilitate payment.
- Documents services performed.
- Attends training classes and departmental meetings.
- Must follow all company safety policies and procedures, and immediately report any and all accidents to a manager or supervisor.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Ability to understand and follow instructions and technical manuals.
- Ability to work effectively with others using good interpersonal skills.
- Basic knowledge of automotive parts and systems.
- Demonstrable mechanical skills and knowledge.
- Technical training or commensurate technical experience.
- Ability to deal effectively with customers and dealership personnel.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Certificate from college or technical school preferred.
- 1 to 2 years of experience in a maintenance role that included supervised training on heavy transportation vehicles by a certified Technician.
Tool Requirements:
- Tools are not required, the Company will furnish hand tools.
