Position Overview:
Technician I (6 years of experienced) Next transition from Technician II. Responsible for diagnosis, remove or replace major components without supervision. Expectations include the ability to diagnose and repair the following with no supervision: Clutches, Power Take Offs Systems, Electric Systems, Hydraulic/Air Brake systems, Heating/Air Conditioning Systems, Instruments and Gauges, and Preventive Maintenance Service. Work involves ability to follow directions and clearly document on jobs including labor, parts, cause and corrections, repair stories in detail.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

- Trouble shoot, diagnose, disassemble, inspect, repair and rebuild products.
- Identify warrantable repairs.
- Remove and reinstall products under minimum supervision within acceptable standard repair hours.
- Assist less experienced technicians with repairs, maintenance assignments and adjustments.
- Complete written report on jobs including labor, parts, cause and corrections, repair stories in detail in writing and electronically.
- Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units.
- Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services.
- Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order.
- Road test trucks when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
- Maintain work area appearance and safety.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Demonstrate proficiency in the repair and diagnosis.
- Experience and understanding of tooling equipment, tooling processes, and industrial trends.
- Product knowledge and experience understanding technical issues and ability to apply previous technical experience to solve technical problems.
- Practiced documentation skills.
- Must be able to read, write and understand service instructions.
- Experience using repair manuals, wiring (electrical) diagrams and schematics necessary to troubleshoot or repair vehicle or component failure.
- Ability to safely drive service vehicles and vehicles in and out of service area, as well as test drive.
- In depth knowledge of truck components and systems.
- Proficiency in the use of machine tools in shop.
Education & Experience:
- 6 years of experience with diagnostic and repair of diesel engines.
- Certified Associate in Applied Sciences or equivalent technical training in Diesel Technology.
- Strong technical/mechanical skills and experience required.
- Computer skills including email, maintenance programs, and diagnostic systems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to communicate with customers and must be able to exchange accurate information. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 70 pounds. Must be able to detect parts and machinery from a distance and up close.
Tool Requirements:
- Have a complete set of hand tools.
Working Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
